The small mouse stares back at the woman and starts coming towards her. She isn't thrilled about this, but she really doesn’t want mice in her house. The mouse has now come close enough that the woman picks him up. With his large soulful eyes staring at her she puts him into a glass canning jar. As she starts to put the lid on the jar, she realizes that the mouse won’t be able to breath.
The lady instead puts a lid made of paper with a hole in the middle on the jar. The hole is large enough for the mouse to stick his nose out of it and she knows he will chew his way out soon enough. She decides to put a different cover, pepper shaker type lid with several smaller holes, on the jar. Feeling safer with the new lid, she finally notices that the little mouse is wearing a small yellow vest.
Knowing that he is right that she does need the help, she asks the mouse to invite the rest of the “crew” in. He does and before they come in she starts to wonder if she just committed to being overrun with mice - knowing how they like to breed. "Gus" tells her not to worry as they have done this before. "Once there was this girl covered in ash who wanted to go to a dance", he started to say... but then realizes that story is for another time as they were in a hurry.
She tells Gus that the eight already here are all that she needs and asks him to tell the rest of the mice to leave and not return as she really doesn’t like mice in her house. He does and the others disappear.
