I do love to learn about the trees and Efem has been dropping more clues... or at least I think they are. Especially as she doesn't have clothes for me to pick up after her (as she is constantly reminding me since I still have not finished her outfit).
So, in researching, I came across a chapter on Tree Mothers which had a 'Ring of Truth' that went off within me (which I will explain another time). But for now, this inspirational nugget dragged my curiosity deeper into the depths of the book to see what further insight I might uncover.
Nymphs, or young dryads, spend most of their time playing or flitting around trees and only allowing others to see glimpses of them. Tree Mothers on the other hand, are spirits of the Trees (like the dryads), but of an older and more mature type of Spirit. They are helpful to those wanting to gain knowledge from the trees.
So, where would I look if I wanted to find such a spirit like a Tree Mother? They are usually found in older trees, gnarled ones with very artistic or distinctive features and forms on the trunk. Very old, old, old trees are Tree Grandmothers (which I might find one or two of those down the road but not yet).
The characteristics of a Tree Mother can be very comforting and protective in very cold and dark times. They might even offer a limb to climb on occasionally. But don't underestimate them either, as like any good mother, Tree Mothers are also very tough. If necessary, they can push a reluctant offspring to great achievements personally and spiritually.
Each Tree Mother, like all mothers, have their own personality. Each reflect the qualities of her own tree species and the wisdom she has gained through the ages. If you find a rare one that has lived for centuries, as she has moved from tree to tree, what amazing stories she would have to share. One only needs to take the time to pull up a toadstool and listen for a spell. Or maybe curl up at her base and simply lay your head against her and dream a little dream.

Welcome to my blog. This is where I will reveal the magic of my Fae and their stories and share with you some of the success and pitfalls through the journey of doll making, sculpting, and other crafts that all come back to my dolls in many ways.
