Prince Charming... NOT!

I saw a comment yesterday saying this week was Halloween week.  I had to check the calendar to be sure - Yep, it is.  Since next week starts a new month, then that really makes this weekend the party time designated for all the magic, ghosties and witches to come out and and play.

As I drove into town I was able to partake of the real magic that comes in with October.  The Dragon's Breath that blows in, changing the temperatures from Summer/Fall soon to create the frozen Winter landscapes.

The mundanes of the greens and browns change into brilliant reds and yellows... And yet, the Dragon continues breathing - causing all the trees to lose their magical hues shaking off their scales/leaves one by one and layering the ground.

As each layer is peeled away, the veil between the Mundane and Magical worlds becomes thinner.  We invite those who have been hidden from us to come in and play.  We dress up so we can even mingle with them.
Even here, many years ago, I should have realized I was never the glamour princess type as I dressed as Cinderella in all of her glory of soot and ashes.

(Now my brother is really scary as I think he was suppose to be a hobo but even I am not sure what he was in this picture.)

I remember the innocent fun in what we chose to wear as we walked among the ghost, vampires and monsters that prowled the streets that night.  For back then we knew we were still safe (within reason)... especially because we didn't travel alone.  That was one night one just traveled in a pack.
As our monsters have changed over the years to ghouls and the walking dead zombies, the main thing is still how we face our fears of the season.  As this final layer of shadow magic draws to a close, sending back the fears and darkness behind the Veil for another year,  my hubby's favorite saying pops into my head. "Have a nice day because the alternative sucks", in a way applies - discovering what our fears are and poking a little fun at them can help to make them disappear leaving a nice new day out there.
