Then there comes along a character that will not die. DesiRae is such a one. When I sculpt a doll it can be up to a month before I actually get to put my hands back on them to finalize them. As such, I become more critical of what I originally sculpted and this is where "off with their heads" can happen.
DesiRae is like Pandora, she opened doorways and lifted the lid to reveal to me things I hadn't seen before. She came into being in the clay form and even made it to the mold stage, but then like we do to ourselves, she wasn't "perfect". Another opportunity to where one doesn't have to be perfect as much as loved. But I couldn't let her go, there was some pull she had on me that kept me trying to find that balance within her.
After redoing her head about 6 more times she again wanted to reveal a part of herself. DesiRae is about the Moon and how it reflects our soul. As she revealed a part of herself to me, I realized that it was all in the eyes. After all, aren't our eyes the windows to our soul? This is how the eye painting tutorial got started. She still is a little elusive as she is off dancing with Gus at the Pub right now. Let me reveal to you her project of her gazing ball (go to the Projects & Tutorials page) and of the eye painting tutorial (soon to be released).
