The Thinking Woman's Guide to Real Magic

It is a practice that Hubby and I often do after any trip - we review it. Was it worth the money?  When we started this adventure our expectations were to walk the paths of history, savor the flavor of the people, and hopefully find some Magic.

I can say that with all the miles we have walked and the stairs we have climbed that we certainly accomplished our journey through time. Sleeping in ancient beds was an interesting experience in of itself as we had one bed that we had to put to rest - it was so angry in the beginning of our sleep until we asked it to calm down.  The energy surrounding that bed taught us to not take lightly the magic we would encounter in our trip.

The different people we met was great fun.  Thank you, Gail Leitch for the warm welcome to Scotland though we couldn't make a meeting. Our time with Kate Whorlow was just the type of flavor we had so wanted to have.  I will never look at putting butter and jam or is it jam and butter on my toast without thinking of the proper Cornish way to do it. (*smiling*)

After the first week I was beginning to feel though that I wouldn't ever find the element of Magic that I was looking for.  We were sitting for lunch in the oldest Eating House in Bath when we struck up a conversation with a family dining next to us which made me think on this.

They were from North Carolina and had just had a wonderful experience going to Warner Brothers' Harry Potter Land in London. Looking at their pictures, I sat thinking this was the type of magic I wanted to see. The wizards, Diagon Alley and the magic surrounding these characters.  But then I thought again... no, I had really wanted to see the REAL magic of Scotland, Wales, and Cornwall.

The one thing that did seem to happen is that the magical things I really had high expectations to see, like the Fairy Pools and Stonehenge, didn't seem to live up to my expectations.   I did discover that the magic is much more hidden than I realized after jumping boulders to the Fairy Pools and hiking through fields to find Wistman's Wood. I never took into consideration how much the other tourists' energy would also affect me as I was exploring these magical properties.

But then I strolled into Glastonbury and I realized I had found the feeling of Harry Potter's Diagon Alley that I had been wanting to find.  There I discovered a Tarot reader who shared some of her magic with me. The Well and Gardens were mystical and the flavor of the village suited our taste.

Our time at Glandyfil Castle was romantic and inspiring with all sorts of ideas too.

So like any tourist I too walked away with souvenirs.  I had found a set of reading glasses at the Fairy Pool.  I had been given a map to the Wistman's Forest which I never would have found without it.  I found Moon threads and dragon charms in one shop to enhance some of my creations.   Finally, I discovered that my brother is a great guide which enhanced Italy for me - (But don't know if I am ready to make a wall out of ceramic tile for my fairy garden... *lol).

So yes, the trip was worth it.  The friendships were great to make and the re-connection with family was special.  Now to take my souvenirs and go play.
