As Dree approached the other Dragon, he realized that he would have to be the one to start this conversation as this majestic Dragon appeared to be sleeping with it's great tail wrapped around the base of the Tree. "Greetings Clansman. May we have a moment of your time?" he asked. A smile appeared on the large Moon Dragon, and slowly he opened his eyes and stared at each of his visitors one by one as he answered. "Welcome Drai’ochtluan, or may I call you Dree? And it is always nice to see you too, House Mother Meerher. I see that you have a new Moonie with you too. E'luminosity isn't it? I have never met a Borrower turned Finder before Arnie, but I can see that your new profession suites you well. I have been waiting for your arrivals and would enjoy this opportunity to meet all of you for we have much to discuss and decisions to be made." After the initial shock of hearing her name, Arnie then realized that she never saw the Monacle speak but she knew that she had heard him plainly! It was then that the ancient Moon Dragon laughed. This time she saw him talking. "I am sorry Arnie, it has been long since I have had visitors that I have to remind myself that not everything uses mind-speak. Does this way make you feel more comfortable?" Nodding her head, the Dragon continued as he now looked at Dree. "Welcome Clansman. I have greeted the others, but I sense that you have something of mine that I would also like to say hello to. May I see her?"
"Master! Is that you?" the Oracle excitely and slightly confused asked. "How can there be two of you?" Again, the Monacle laughed. "There is only one of me but there are now two Moon Dragons. I made you to answer to a Moon Dragon, Oracle. Something I did not think about then, but it appears to have worked out for the better this way." As Dree offered to return the Oracle to it's rightful owner, the Monacle shook his head and refused. "You and Arnie will be needing it soon" was all he would say. For a while all of them sat around the Tree as the Monacle told Dree and the others his story of how he had came there and what he had been doing all of this time. As they listened, it was Arnie who noticed something about the Tree. It began with her noticing that some small branches were leafless and in some cases dry and brittle. "The Tree is going to die!" realized Arnie. It was when this thought came to her that she also realized that the Monacle had quit talking and was looking directly at her. "Yes, Arnie. The Tree is dying as I begin to fade. It must have a guardian to help protect it or the ills of all of the realms will overwhelm it. That was why I came here those many years ago to become the Monacle to keep magic in the realms."
"But don't you get lonely?" asked Arnie? "A Borrower is usually a loner, but we don't usually sit by ourselves in the middle of nowhere under a tree." Again, the Dragon smiled. "The Moonies visit me often as they are my helpers. They assist with maintaining the balance in the realms. The magic that the Tree freely gives also flows through me. Because of that I am able to travel everywhere in the realms to watch over things and still stay here to be the Guardian. But I am not omnificent. I can only see what occurs where I mind-travel, and I can make some small changes here and there just like our friend, Dree for an example."
"You Dree are that hatchling. It was not long ago I found the egg and picked a young Fae to discover you as well as sent a Brownie to look over you." The flash of anger that appeared over Dree's face surprised Arnie. She had never seen Dree mad and she hoped never to see it again. It scared her! With a growl in his voice Dree spoke to the Monacle. "Are you saying that everything that has happened to me and my friends has been because of you!" As the Monacle shook it's head, sadly it answered. "No, I only could start your path, each of us must make our paths. What you and the others have done has been your own choices. I only gave you the opportunity as I have watched over you. As a Moon Dragon, something I learned a long time ago is that Sunlight may banish the Darkness away, but Moonlight is the Light in the Darkness. You needed the opportunity to become what you are for soon you will be the only Moon Dragon left as I am fading away."

Fae sat with Trolls laughing and telling stories. Even the Wysps were invited to join in with the others as all were taking in the celebration. "They probably won't even notice I am gone," Dree smiled as he turned to enter the portal with the Moonies. Not everyone was unaware though. Arnie had been watching Dree for a while as she had noticed that he seemed to be 'off somewhere else' since he had first created the portal for the others to escape from the World of Whispers. "Now that I am a Finder instead of a Borrower," she thought, "This looks like the right time to keep an eye on my friend. He's looking for something," and with that thought and smile, she followed him. She was right! Dree was looking for something and now was the time to visit with the other Moon Dragon. Maybe, just maybe, he would finally find his Dragon family. Dree knew he had 'family' here in Wysmy. The others in the village and beyond had all taken him in. They all had helped him grow up and for that he would be forever thankful. But sometimes he wished to know what had happened to his parents and if he had any brothers or sisters. And that is truly a sad thing thought the young Moon Dragon when a Wish Dragon can't even create his own wish. The Oracle had told him that the Outies had something like 'Genie-all-a-gee' which helped them to know their ancestors. The way the Oracle explained it, it still involved a lot of guesses to who were your relatives were too. Dree wasn't too worried about guesses as Dragons live for a very long time and if one relative was found, it would not be hard to talk to that one directly. That was what was on Dree's mind when he stepped through the portal. Both he and the Moonies were so busy that they did not notice Arnie stepping through the portal immediately after they did!
"It's not far from here," Arnie heard Meerher tell Dree. "The Monacle will probably even know you are coming." This surprised Dree. "How would that be?" he asked. "The Monacle watches over the Tree. The Tree is the provider of magic in the realms and without it, all magic would disappear. Your magical spoon is from the tree. That is another way magic can be focused and directed. Wizards like to make wands from branches of the tree when the tree decides to provide them which is rare." Meerher was quiet for a moment as she realized to herself, "I guess that is why there aren't that many wizards now that I think about it."
Now Arnie was proud of her skills at being stealthy when she was a Borrower, but Arnie had never borrowed from a Dragon before and did not know how sensitive their hearing and sense of smell were. Dree had known that she had followed him through the portal and that she was following behind them now. Finally when he decided that the Moonies would not be able to send her back Dree stopped and turned towards where Arnie was hiding. "Arnie, you can come out now and join us," he said to the surprised Finder. "Come up here so you can be introduced properly as my friend."
Ellie nodded her head to agree thinking to herself, "I hope I don't say something I shouldn't." She then started to stroll around the outside circle of people, listening and watching. As Ellie watched the others that were talking to the lost ones who had come through the portal from the World of Whispers, Meerher slowly had been working her way over to the young Moon Dragon. As she moved closer to Dree she took the opportunity to grab a small plate of some Granny Flare's treats along the way. "Dree, do you have a few minutes?" Meerher asked holding the plate up as to offer him a snack. Looking up to see who was asking, Dree saw it was Meerher and answered. "Of course. I want to thank you again for the help with the spoon. Do you need it back now?" he asked as he took one of the sprinkled unicorn dusted cookies that sparkled at him with temptation from her plate. The Moonie House Mother knew that she going to have to be careful on how she answered that question. After a short breath, she said, "Dree, would you like to meet the other Moon Dragon clan member? I know that you are busy and all, but I can take you to him if you would like." Oh, this had been something he had been thinking about ever since he found out that there was another Moon Dragon. Even more so now that he found out that other Moon Dragon was still alive! But could he leave now? Should he stay and help the lost ones find their homes? These were all the things he had been pondering. It was like Meerher was reading his mind. "Dree, while the others are still sorting out everyone, which that will take some time, you could go see the Monacle by using a portal. It would just be a short trip" Meerher continued. Dree had been in his own thoughts and had been half listening until she said 'the Monacle'. "What did you call him?" he asked Meerher. "That is what we call Tun'Gul. He is the Monacle to the Tree," Meerher answered. "That is where the magical spoon you used came from," she continued. Looking at the spoon he still held for a few seconds and then out over the picnic area, he made his decision. "I will go with you but I have something to take care of first. Wait here and I should be back shortly," Dree said decisively. Meerher replied to him not to hurry as she had to find E'luminosity who was somewhere in the crowd helping the others. Nodding his head, the Dragon than turned and started out to one of the small groups where the other Dragons were gathered. He wanted to see Siate' and Aralt before he left to make sure there would be no mischief while he was away!
"Drai’ochtluan, I and the Dragon Herald were discussing with the other dragons about a trip we will be taking to find more of our kind. Someone needs to help them on their return to our ancestral home here in the Realm of Wymsy. Do you bless such an undertaking?" Knowing down deep inside that there was probably more to this 'trip' than Dree knew, he decided that it was the perfect way to make sure the two of them did not stir up any trouble for a while at least. "I think that is a great idea," he answered. "Will the others go with you?" Smiling her predatory smile (and making Dree even more convinced that she and Aralt were planning something), she told him that only the two of them would be going and as much as the picnic was very entertaining, they would be leaving right away. "No sense letting things wait," she said as they walked towards a cave where a magical portal suddenly appeared and they stepped through. After she left and the other Dragons were sure she was truly gone, they surrounded the Moon Dragon to welcome him. Dree took all the good "slaps on the back" greetings good naturally as everyone was still hesitant to wish anything or anyone well just yet. Dree knew that this might not be the perfect time to leave the Dragons but he thought to himself, "It's just a short trip... especially through a portal. What could go wrong?"
"I told you that we should have left him alone this time," one Wysp told the others. "Now he is really mad!" Really mad was an understatement, Aralt was furious! His corolla was missing and after seeing so many Wysps around he finally figured out who had taken it. "Today is not the day for this to happen," growled Aralt as he wanted to have his magical crown when he and Siate' met the young Dragon named Dree. "My Emerald Dragon Stone will let me hear the mind-speaking of the Dragons, but without the corolla, I won't be able to nudge them to my desires." This is how Drat found him. "This will be easier than I thought," Drat realized as he watched both Aralt and the Wysps. Slowly stalking behind the arguing group of Wysps, Drat whispered from behind them that maybe they should head for the free food at the SPICE cave nearby where Allspice and Nutmegg were preparing food and drink for the meeting.
Aralt didn't hesitate to chase the Wysp holding his crown out of the cave and ended up following them towards the SPICE kitchen. Smiling, Drat waited a minute before slowly following them all so he could be there to watch the excitement when Dree and the others arrived. As the Wysps were being chased by Aralt, Nutmegg was setting up a small tent and some tables for the food that Allspice was bringing out from the kitchen in their cave. "They should be getting here soon," thought Nutmegg as he finished with the tables. As Nutmegg finished, Allspice stepped out of the cave with a box of food and said, "They should be here soon." Nutmegg just smiled at his boss and shook his head in amusement.
Soon it looked like it was going to be the biggest picnic that the Realm of Wymsy had ever seen. Just about everyone was there! Everyone but the Dragons... As the Wysps, being followed by Aralt, appeared so did a very smug looking Drat. It was then that the Dragon Queen, Siate', decided to make her grand entrance out of her cave too. As she left her cave, other Dragons started to appear behind her. Aralt decided that he needed to be there and vowed to get even with those irritating Wysps later as he went to stand by Siate's side as the Dragon Herald. As more and more Dragons appeared from the other caves in the area, the Wysmy townspeople grew quiet and stared. They had no idea that there were that many Dragons who had returned to the Realm. Soon many of the Wysps started to ignore the free food and began mumbling to each other as they pointed at each new Dragon as it appeared. It did not take long for Siate' to be standing at the head of the Dragons as if she was the queen of them all. In her mind she was their Queen as soon as she could take care of this young Dragon Dree. Hopefully today would be that day so the others would not challenge her authority over them since Dragons did not believe in royalty or governments for themselves. Dragons were pragmatic though as they did respect power and intelligence. Just as Siate's was becoming irritated, Aralt stepped up to her side. "Where is this young Dragon?" she asked him. Aralt looking around quickly and replied "He is not here". She had thought that Dree had already arrived when she had made herself known and now here she was waiting for him to appear. "I will make him pay for this," grumbled Siate' as she tapped her long talons on a rock while she waited for Dree to arrive. All of a sudden, a portal appeared in the middle of crowd and as everyone was moving away from it, out stepped Granny Flare, Meerher, Ellie, and Dree. Almost as fast as the portal appeared, it was gone. As Granny and the Luminary Council members headed towards where the Baron and Dowager stood, Dree turned and to face Siate' and her wrath.
"Why, I was of the Wish Dragon clan as I told you before," answered Dree as he knew that would irritate her even more. "I know that," she almost screamed. "What clan are you with now?" "Well," answered Dree, "I just recently found out there is one more member so I guess you could say it is a clan I suppose..." he paused watching Siate' getting madder at how he was making her look foolish, Dree continued. "I am of the Moon Dragon clan." Of all of the responses he could have said, this one made the entire Dragon community lift their heads and look at him now in a different way. Before they all saw a young Dragon being impertinent to an elder, now they saw only something that many of them had heard about in legends and a legend for a Dragon was a very, very, very long time ago. Now was the time for Dree to remove the threat of Siate' and Aralt. "Dragons! Townsfolk of Wymsy! Hear me! I am Drai’ochtluan but most of you know me as Dree. I am of the Moon Dragon clan and am here to show you the powers of my clan. Recently a new Realm has appeared in the cosmos. It is causing a disturbance in the balance and must be corrected before great and terrible events occur. There are many from various realms trapped there without a way home. This must be corrected and with this being the thinnest time of the year of the great veil that separates the realms, it must be done now." This is where Siate' realized she could establish her power and quickly interrupted Dree. "I have the power to make a portal to bring them over," she said making sure she spoke loud enough for all to hear. This was the moment that Dree had been waiting for! "As you cannot keep the portal open for very long, I thank you for your offer of assistance," spoke Dree, "but I intend to anchor this new realm called the World of Whispers to this realm so it can be now a part of the Realm of Wymsy." Dree's announcement caught Siate' off guard. "No Dragon can do that," she growled. Dree just smiled and thumbed the Brownie portal stone that he had been holding and started to open a portal.
As the portal opened, those surrounding Dree could see the others trapped in the other realm. Soon a metal chain appeared to be floating and coming out of the portal and attached itself to a nearby boulder. When the connection was secure, slowly those trapped on the other side started coming through the portal. Quickly the Baron and Dowager greeted them and started to move them away from the opening. As more and more appeared from the portal, Dree turned to Siate' and said, "thank you for your offer to help, but the portal will now stay open on it's own and the other realm is now permanently attached to this one. The balance has been restored." As Siate' started to open her mouth to say something, she realized that she had been beat and quickly closed it. This young Dragon had beaten her and now she needed to figure out how best to salvage the situation. Siate' had always been a Dragon of opportunity and now she was trying to create a new one... but what would it be?
"Now it's more work that adventure," thought the House Mother. For she knew that now with the greetings over that they had to get back to work. "Ahem... I would like to thank all of you for your courtesy and friendly greetings, but there is little time and we must be starting on our mission. Granny Flare has told us about a Moon Dragon. Is he close by?" Meerher asked. It was at that time Dree stepped through the doorway and into the room followed by a white rat. "How young he looks," thought Meerher. After Dree introduced himself and Drat, he asked the visitors why the were looking for him. It was Ellie who spoke first. "We need you to save some others on a realm that magically appeared and is throwing everything topsy-turvy," she told him speaking very fast. It took Dree a couple of seconds to make out what Ellie had said and before he could answer it was Meerher who continued. "Dree, we of the Luminary Council monitor the realms to help keep the balance in our universe. Recently a new realm appeared out of nowhere and is causing disruptions throughout the cosmos. It seems to be Fate that we have come to find you as a Moon Dragon will be needed to heal the rift and ours is not available."
Dree's greatest desire was to ask how he could meet the other Moon Dragon, but knew that he had another problem that had to be solved first. "We are having a small 'Dragon' problem here of our own. What is it that you are wanting from me?" Dree asked. "Why nothing yet. We are here to help you. According to Granny Flare, your problem also involves this new realm that she called the World of Whispers," Meerher replied. "We brought some tools that might help you in making contact to it. It needs to be grounded to this realm as size doesn't matter but numbers do matter in the balance. By connecting the new realm to this one, then we are back to an even number of realms and the balance is maintained," Meerher finished as she looked at those standing around her.
"Granny told us about the Roses' in the other realm and that you were trying to make a portal link to it," Meerher replied. "We hope these tools will help you make the link and connect the two realms together. It will take a lot of your magic to make it happen as a job of this magnitude could not be done by any other magical creature. Granny did mention something to us about your 'Dragon' problem and we may have an answer for that as well if you are interested," continued Meerher.
It was Drat's mission to make sure that Aralt was also there. Meanwhile the others were to start the planning for the hopeful return of all of the ones that were stuck in the World of Whispers as they would be disorientated. For once they arrived, they would realize that they were hungry since they had not eaten nor drank anything for a while in that strange white realm. Dree, Granny Flare, and the two Illuminarys had some practicing to do with Granny's portal stone and the gifts that Meerher and Ellie had brought with them from the Bag of Possibilities.
"Who are you?" Granny asks sharply as she wasn't expecting to see a face suddenly appear in her stone. "I don't have much time to speak, House Brownie," said the face of Meerher. "Apparently you have the best connection to my portal call and I need to talk to you about call you had." Meerher then tells Granny she is on her way with some important news that can't be shared just anywhere. "Where can we meet? There will be two of us," asked Meerher. Granny knew how important that question was for one should know where a portal opening is going to happen so one just doesn't walk out into a pool of lava or a bottomless pit.
Soon Meerher and Ellie appeared through the portal looking like no creature Granny had met before. As Granny watched them, she thought to herself, "What trouble have I just invited in?" After making sure Ellie had come through the portal without any mishaps, Meerher noticed Granny and reached out her hand in friendship. "I am Meerher, a House Mother of The Luminary Council's and this young student next to me is E'luminosity," said Meerher. Ellie quickly pipped in "You can call me Ellie". "I am Granny Flare," answered the Brownie. Through the introductions Granny had been moving them inside her hut and getting everyone seated at the table where the tea and cake were waiting to be served. Ellie was so tempted to quickly reach for a piece of cake but then she remember her manners and the importance of why they were here. Seeing the flicker of disappointment in the eye of Ellie, Granny smiled and held out a plate with a piece of cake as she asked, "Why don't you tell me why you are here, so I know how best to help." Meerher and Ellie than went on to explain about the sudden appearance in the Realms of a new unknown realm and how it is their job to watch over the realms. This new realm just popping up had never happen before. Then Ellie went on to explained about "the call" for help or what sounded like someone needing help in this new realm and how the connection seem to reach to this location or realm that they seemed to now be in. What was also truly puzzling to the Moonies was that they thought they were the only ones that could go to the different realms. "In looking for answers we then went to the Bag of Possibilities for some solutions," said Meerher. "We received some gifts or tools so to speak and thought you might be able to help us out in figuring how best to use them." Granny was in a daze as she listened to their story. But it also tied in with "the call" she had received from the Roses. "This sounds like a situation that our Village Council is aware of and is currently working on," Granny told her guests. "I think it is time for us to travel over to the Baron's mansion and to make sure that Dree is there too. He is our young Moon Dragon who has also been pulled into this adventure too."
As Meerher continued down the hallway with the young student following her to the Storage Room she thought to herself, "Is this need to help also what makes me a sought-after House Mother too?" After a quick snicker, she also wondered if it only meant that she was just too gullible. Either way, she was who she was and knew she would not change her ways at this time of her life. Soon Ellie and Meerher had traveled down to the lower levels of The Luminary Council's building and were standing outside the door to the Storage Room. The House Mother turned to Ellie and said, "There are many things here in the Storage Room but stay focused on the Bag of Possibilities. This room is always unlocked for as you know there are no secrets here, but remember why we are here. We don't need any other distractions." Ellie nodded her head in agreement as Meerher opened the door.
As they approached the pedestal, Meerher turned to Ellie and said, "We are going to open the bag and when we do you need to be thinking of your mission. You will pull out three items as the Bag offers more than just one solution or tool to use. Do you understand what you need to do?" With her big dewy eyes, Ellie solemnly nodded her head, took a deep breath to center herself and answered, "Yes, let's do this!" Meerher advanced to the Bag and with one hand she slowly caressed the side of the bag as she offered her thanks to it for offering what possibilities it was willing to give. As she reached up and untied the string holding the bag closed, the House Mother reminded Ellie, "Be thinking of your mission." As she released the string that held the Bag shut, a blinding shimmering light filled with sparkles and currents of magical energy shot straight up and engulfed the room. Meerher, who had done this before, had her eyes closed as not to be blinded by the bright light, but Ellie was unaware this would happen! As Ellie kept blinking her eyes while trying to see, she kept thinking to herself of her mission. "What do I need to have to assist those that called for help?" She kept repeating over and over as her eyes adjusted to the brightness coming from the open Bag. When she could see clearly enough, she reached into the bag and immediately she felt something being put into her hand! Quickly she pulled her hand out, still clutching the thing that she was given. It looked like a necklace chain that was silvery with no apparent weak links among it. There was a note attached to it, but with her eyes still getting used to the brightness of the room, Ellie put it aside so she could read it later and then reached into the Bag for the second item.
Meerher, opening her eyes and seeing the three items laying on the pedestal near the Bag of Possibilities, told Ellie to gather them up as they left the Storage Room. Of course, this was done after sealing the Bag with a small pat on the side of thank you. As they started back to the upper levels of the Luminary Council building, Ellie asked the House Mother, "What do we do now?" Meerher quickly answered the young Waxing student as she looked straight ahead down the hallway, "Find the Moon Dragon." * For those who have followed the story for a while, you might remember this spoon. How it got into the Bag of Possibilities, maybe someday we will find out... but that is another story.
Putting her book down on her desk, Meerher got up and went to the door. Upon slowly opening the door she saw one of the new Waxing members standing in the hallway. As the head of the Waning Section of the Luminary Council, it was her responsibility being of course wiser and more knowledgeable with age and experience, to help the fledging new Moonies. Or at least that is what some of the House Mothers liked to think. "What can I help you with, Dear?" asked Meerher.
"The problem House Mother is that no one is listening to me!" wailed Ellie as she looked into Meerher eyes. "I heard something. Almost like a cry for help from the mysterious realm." Ellie then lowered her voice and looked down at her feet as she asked, "Will you help me to help them? Is there anything we can do to reach out to this realm to assist them?"
"Yes, I did hear something," Ellie repeated for the 100th million time. "Why won't the Elders take me seriously?" she thought to herself. "Yes, it was a faint sound but I clearly heard it," she told another Council member of the Moonies. It seemed to her that the Elders of the The Luminary Council were more thrown by this new Realm showing up than the fact that Ellie heard a cry for help there.
Ellie knew she was unique and one-of-a-kind for her mother had said this often to her before sending her to the Moonies. Ellie, remembering her mother's last words before closing the door to the school's carriage, "Believe in yourself, Ellie. Don't let people contain you in their tiny box of beliefs of what they think you are. You are a star. Shine and let the others see your light." With that Ellie's mother blew her a kiss and sent her on her new path.
The Tree and one special Monitkull Dragon live together in a glass-like domed cave. The Tree is where fairy tales begin for the Tree grows a special sap. Anyone that tastes the sap can see and will believe in fairy tales. Once this happens, they are then called 'Saps'.* For as the saying goes - only a Sap would believe in fairy tales. But how dreary and colorless the world would be without the magic of fairy tales. Now the last ancient Monitkull Dragon is dying and needs someone to come replace him so that the Tree can continue to live and be protected. For the Tree and the Dragon are connected as the Tree needs the Moondust and Wishes of a Moon Dragon to survive. That is what the Monitkull Dragon was before he took on the role of being a 'Watcher' or 'Monacle' of the Tree. Sadly if either the Dragon or the Tree dies, so does the other and all magic will fade unless someone steps in. As the Monitkull guards the Tree, others assist the Dragon. They are the Moonies and are a race of Elementals who help the Monitkull Dragon and nuture the Tree. They have frantically been scouring the many Realms in their lands and dimensions looking for another Moon Dragon to replace 'The Monacle' before he fades away. Part of the Moonie responsibility is to monitor the Law of Synchronicity of the many Realms. The balance must be maintained. The problem is that recently The Moonies "FOUND" a new Realm! One day a mysterious Realm just appeared and everything was thrown off kilter! The balance was off.
One of the Moonies trying to restore the balance is E'luminosity. She may be young in Elemental years but with her large Moonie ears she is very sensitive to hearing whispers and gossip. It was during an early morning monitoring session that E'luminosity heard that faint call. Someone was talking on a teli-pone to a Granny Flare. Oh, how E'luminosity's ears were burning pink with excitement as she ran off to tell the Head Mistress. "We have contact with the new realm!" E'luminosity yelled as she sprinted down the hallway. *A 'Sap' is someone that is usually not to be taken too seriously
as they are considered silly and gullible. |
