The Dragon Stone

The garden did not begin with a seed.

It began with a whisper carried on the wind  when Mother Earth and her Sister, the Moon, decided to create a special place to allow magic to be planted and to grow.  Together they created a magical Moon Garden.

Mother Earth started the garden by sowing the first moonflower blossoms.  Then the Spirit of the Moon showered down the magical glow of a full moon's light on them.  What was created in love and serenity, the two sisters knew eventually others would want to possess - but what could they do?

To protect their beautiful garden and prevent the possession of the power of the moonflowers they created, the sisters decided to protect the garden by adding extremely powerful and toxic night shade flowers to grow alongside the moon flowers.

But Sister Moon didn't think that this would be enough.  "We need guardians to watch over and protect the magic and the garden," she told her sister. ​  

The Moon Spirit, with the blessing of her sister, then took some of the night shade flowers and with a wave of silvery magic she gave the Nyte Shades gossamer wings transforming them into the Sentinels of the Garden.

This new charmed race breathed in the Moon's magic.  With the essence of the night shade flower and the magic of the moon, they became the caretakers and thrived with their connection to the garden.  The Nyte Shades were the most powerful magical beings in all the Realms.  The power to create or destroy was theirs to control.

The Ntye Shades watched over the realm in which the garden grew and to kept it safe.  They did it well for several centuries, but then one day a Nyte Shade gave her magic to a dragon.

“What one did affected us all and through this Nyte Shade’s sacrifice, we all have become connected to all the Dragons in the Realm as the magic spreads through them,"  decreed the Queen of the Nyte Shades.

Now, most of the Nyte Shades didn't mind sharing their powers with the Dragons as some found it quite humorous how the Wish Dragons were creating chaos with the willy-nilly way they granted of wishes.  But there was one that didn't like that she had no choice in the situation.  She no longer felt comfortable in her skin, knowing she was also feeling the energy of the Dragons too.

"I am going to destroy the garden!" the Nyte Shade decided.  "If I destroy either the Heart or the first Wish Dragon, then the connection will end.  I will then control the moonflowers and have my powers returned to me ten fold!"

The Nyte Shade flew into the garden and started destroying the garden and scaring off the Dragons who had also come to love the garden especially when no one caught them eating an occasional moonflower.  To the magical Dragons, those were the sweetest ambrosia!  But it was not just for the moonflowers.  The garden was their place of power also and was a sacred spot where they gathered to celebrate the gift freely given by a Nyte Shade to a dragon.  Without the gift, the Dragons would never had received their great magical powers and that gift was hidden in the garden!

"We must protect the Heart Stone," they told each other as they watched the Nyte Shade destroying the garden.

As the Nyte Shade continued her attack on the garden she started to go to where she knew the heart of the Nyte Shade that had sacrificed herself and her magic to give it to the dragons was hidden.  

Long had she watched the Dragons until she had discovered the hiding place.  She knew precisely where it was and she created a path of destruction to it.  In moments the Nyte Shade could see the spot where the Golden Cage was hidden and started focusing her magic towards the spot. 

"I am ending this NOW!" the Nyte Shade thought to herself. She gathered her magic around her to cast the exploding blast that would destroy the Golden Cage and the heart stone inside.  She knew it's destruction would sever the connection between the magic of the Nyte Shades and the Dragons.  "It has to be done," she shouted.

What she hadn't counted on was one small Dragon.   

This small Dragon knew he needed to protect the Golden Cage and flew in front of the Nyte Shade just as she invoked the lightning spell to destroy the Heart in the Golden Cage!  In a blinding flash the lightening hit the young Dragon!

As he had done this selfless act of protection with purity of heart, the spell ricocheted back onto the Nyte Shade and destroyed her in the process.

"I can't move!" the young Dragon thought to himself as he tried to see if the Golden Cage was safe.  "I can see and hear but my body won't move!"  This brave Dragon had saved the magic for his kind, but he had just been turned into stone by the last spell of the Nyte Shade.
