Art from the Soul - 2017 I do like doing the Art from the Soul competition. It gives me the opportunity to look back in time and remind me why I do the art that I do. The requirement for the competition is to complete a piece of art that reflects an emotion. Gardner, my garden Brownie, has a toothy smile that hopefully makes one just smile when looking at him. Creating his toothy smile took me outside of my comfort zone. This is what art will do for me, take me to some unknown space to explore and discover… all within the safety of my own home and personal space.
At this time there seems to be a battle of darkness around me. So many people’s fears, anger, and hate which affect my perspective of my art and what I chose to reveal about myself. But art also allows me to change my destiny and my perspective. Just by putting my toothy laugh in my art, I have the choice of how I choose to present my inner-self to the Darkness. This little gardener, small as he is, awakened a piece of my soul, allowing it to come to life like a seed reaching for the sunlight. He took me down a garden path I haven’t seen before. He helped me create a haven where I could escape the Darkness of Reality for just a few minutes. Art captured that nurturing energy of Love and Peace which grows in my garden transforming it into my garden Brownie. Art feeds my Soul with seeds of inspiration and lets the sound of laughter beam down like rays of sunshine.
Now I am ready for winter to be over and spring to arrive...

I finally captured Gardner long enough to get him to work with me on some clothing ideas. Selecting colors is so hard for me, almost as hard as sculpting in the first place. Colors reflect the mood and personality of the character. The colors also assist in capturing the eye of the observer who is looking at the character. Contrast is important to any piece of Artwork. The contrast of light to shadows and from the colors of yellow to blue all add to a successful piece. That is why picking the right shades of colors can be difficult.
I am trying to help Gardner get his act together but he is on his own where True Love is concerned. Inconceivable... (for all of you Princess Bride fans)!!! Enjoy your Valentine's Day.
