It is amazing what can be done in a short amount of time when everyone is working together... everyone but the Wysps that is...
"I told you that we should have left him alone this time," one Wysp told the others.  "Now he is really mad!"  Really mad was an understatement, Aralt was furious!  His corolla was missing and after seeing so many Wysps around he finally figured out who had taken it.  "Today is not the day for this to happen," growled Aralt as he wanted to have his magical crown when he and Siate' met the young Dragon named Dree.  "My Emerald Dragon Stone will let me hear the mind-speaking of the Dragons, but without the corolla, I won't be able to nudge them to my desires."  This is how Drat found him.
"This will be easier than I thought," Drat realized as he watched both Aralt and the Wysps.  Slowly stalking behind the arguing group of Wysps, Drat whispered from behind them that maybe they should head for the free food at the SPICE cave nearby where Allspice and Nutmegg were preparing food and drink for the meeting.
None of the Wysps knew who said it, but the idea was one that they all could agree on as they left Aralt's cave and headed to the SPICE kitchen.  But as they all starting leaving, that was when Drat snuck up behind the Wysp holding the crown and whispered again.  "Let's take this ugly looking crown with us to the free food."
Picture
Aralt didn't hesitate to chase the Wysp holding his crown out of the cave and ended up following them towards the SPICE kitchen.  Smiling, Drat waited a minute before slowly following them all so he could be there to watch the excitement when Dree and the others arrived.
As the Wysps were being chased by Aralt, Nutmegg was setting up a small tent and some tables for the food that Allspice was bringing out from the kitchen in their cave.  "They should be getting here soon," thought Nutmegg as he finished with the tables.  As Nutmegg finished, Allspice stepped out of the cave with a box of food and said, "They should be here soon."  Nutmegg just smiled at his boss and shook his head in amusement.
Picture
It was then that the others started to arrive.  The Baron and Dowager with Sneefle and Fiddlefaddle who had packed snacks for everyone on a small cart with King Dulbbe and Queen Ffion creating quite the procession leading most of the others who followed them to the cave entrance.  Everyone offered to helped Allspice bring out the rest of the food he had prepared as well as several kegs of Ambrosia and Dragon's Brew.  Even Gardner the Gardener brought some treats in his wheelbarrow that he was pushing behind all the others.
Soon it looked like it was going to be the biggest picnic that the Realm of Wymsy had ever seen.  Just about everyone was there!  Everyone but the Dragons...
As the Wysps, being followed by Aralt, appeared so did a very smug looking Drat.  It was then that the Dragon Queen, Siate', decided to make her grand entrance out of her cave too.  As she left her cave, other Dragons started to appear behind her.  Aralt decided that he needed to be there and vowed to get even with those irritating Wysps later as he went to stand by Siate's side as the Dragon Herald.  As more and more Dragons appeared from the other caves in the area, the Wysmy townspeople grew quiet and stared.   They had no idea that there were that many Dragons who had returned to the Realm.  Soon many of the Wysps started to ignore the free food and began mumbling to each other as they pointed at each new Dragon as it appeared.  It did not take long for Siate' to be standing at the head of the Dragons as if she was the queen of them all.  In her mind she was their Queen as soon as she could take care of this young Dragon Dree.  Hopefully today would be that day so the others would not challenge her authority over them since Dragons did not believe in royalty or governments for themselves.  Dragons were pragmatic though as they did respect power and intelligence.
Just as Siate's was becoming irritated, Aralt stepped up to her side. "Where is this young Dragon?" she asked him.  Aralt looking around quickly and replied "He is not here".  She had thought that Dree had already arrived when she had made herself known and now here she was waiting for him to appear.  "I will make him pay for this," grumbled Siate' as she tapped her long talons on a rock while she waited for Dree to arrive.
All of a sudden, a portal appeared in the middle of crowd and as everyone was moving away from it, out stepped Granny Flare, Meerher, Ellie, and Dree.  Almost as fast as the portal appeared, it was gone.  As Granny and the Luminary Council members headed towards where the Baron and Dowager stood, Dree turned and to face Siate' and her wrath.
"It is about time you arrived," she said to Dree.  "Now it is time for you to answer a question that I have," Siate' said in a loud enough voice so that the other Dragons would hear.  "What clan are you?"  Dree smiled as he had anticipated her question. He was just surprised that she let her temper get ahead of her tact.
Picture
"Why, I was of the Wish Dragon clan as I told you before," answered Dree as he knew that would irritate her even more.  "I know that," she almost screamed.  "What clan are you with now?"  "Well," answered Dree, "I just recently found out there is one more member so I guess you could say it is a clan I suppose..." he paused watching Siate' getting madder at how he was making her look foolish, Dree continued.  "I am of the Moon Dragon clan."
Of all of the responses he could have said, this one made the entire Dragon community lift their heads and look at him now in a different way.  Before they all saw a young Dragon being impertinent to an elder, now they saw only something that many of them had heard about in legends and a legend for a Dragon was a very, very, very long time ago.
Now was the time for Dree to remove the threat of Siate' and Aralt.  "Dragons!  Townsfolk of Wymsy!  Hear me!  I am  Drai’ochtluan but most of you know me as Dree.  I am of the Moon Dragon clan and am here to show you the powers of my clan.  Recently a new Realm has appeared in the cosmos.  It is causing a disturbance in the balance and must be corrected before great and terrible events occur.  There are many from various realms trapped there without a way home.  This must be corrected and with this being the thinnest time of the year of the great veil that separates the realms,  it must be done now."
This is where Siate' realized she could establish her power and quickly interrupted Dree.  "I have the power to make a portal to bring them over," she said making sure she spoke loud enough for all to hear.  This was the moment that Dree had been waiting for!  "As you cannot keep the portal open for very long, I thank you for your offer of assistance," spoke Dree, "but I intend to anchor this new realm called the World of Whispers to this realm so it can be now a part of the Realm of Wymsy."
Dree's announcement caught Siate' off guard.  "No Dragon can do that," she growled.  Dree just smiled and thumbed the Brownie portal stone that he had been holding and started to open a portal.
Picture
In his other claw, Dree held the wooden spoon that Meerher had given him from the Bag of Possibilities.  If ever there was a time to believe now was that time as the  young Dragon hoped this spoon truly had come from a magical branch of the Tree. Dree would soon know if it would be enough as he felt his power increasing more and more as he called upon the Tree to aid him.
As the portal opened, those surrounding Dree could see the others trapped in the other realm.  Soon a metal chain appeared to be floating and coming out of the portal and attached itself to a nearby boulder.  When the connection was secure, slowly those trapped on the other side started coming through the portal.  Quickly the Baron and Dowager greeted them and started to move them away from the opening.  As more and more appeared from the portal, Dree turned to Siate' and said, "thank you for your offer to help, but the portal will now stay open on it's own and the other realm is now permanently attached to this one.  The balance has been restored."
As Siate' started to open her mouth to say something, she realized that she had been beat and quickly closed it.  This young Dragon had beaten her and now she needed to figure out how best to salvage the situation.  Siate' had always been a Dragon of opportunity and now she was trying to create a new one... but what would it be?

As Dree and Drat's return to the Baron's Mansion, the Dowager Griselda noticed a change in the Moon-Wish Dragon as he entered the room.  "He is maturing," she told herself not wanting for this special Dragon to have to grow  up so fast just yet.  Soon everyone was gathered in the tea room.
Fiddlefaddle and Sneefle were busy serving everyone tea and treats when Griselda managed to get an unnoticed minute alone with Dree.  "I see that you have decided on something haven't you?" she asked.
Startled, Dree slightly blushed before looking directly into her eyes.  "Yes, I think I know what to do.  But am I ready for possibly the costs?" the Moon-Wish Dragon answered.  His reply caused the Dowager some surprise!  "What costs could he mean," she pondered as she watched Dree walk away to get his tea and a sweet.
If the Dowager thought her conversation went unnoticed, she must have forgotten that Drat was in the room.  Little escaped the Troll King minion's notice and his large ears made it much easier for him to hear conversations that others missed.  Quietly he slipped up to the Dowager and whispered, "He has a hard decision to make, so give him a little time here."
Picture
Nodding her head, she silently agreed with Drat as they parted and each went to their chairs.
Just like at every event and gathering, there is a moment when everything goes quiet or everyone is watching for someone else to re-start the conversation.  It is at that moment the room takes control and almost always it either turns into someone saying, "Oh, it's later than I thought" or "It must be time to be leaving."  It could even be "What did you think of that storm last night?"  This is a natural law no matter where one lives.  But this was not one one of those moment as something else happened.  Dree stood up from his chair (and his favorite pillow), sat down his drink and unfinished cookie on the nearby table and cleared his throat to get everyone's attention.  Not that he needed to make much of sound for anyone in a room with a growing Dragon in it usually has their eyes on the Dragon anyhow.
Picture
With one more clearing of his throat (or growl depending on who was listening), Dree began.  "I would like to let everyone know what I have decided concerning my kin, the Dragons, who are returning.  I know that so far we have only seen Siate' and have spoken to the Dragon Herald, Aralt, but I feel that the others dragons are nearby."
"I have been to the Wishing Well and have retrieved the Nyte Shade's Heart and have heard the Wishing Well's tale of how the Nyte Shade Heart came to be in the Well.  I have also learned how the returning Dragons' magic has been tainted by their long departure from this realm.  This is what creates the mis-enchantments when a Wish Dragon grants a wish," Dree giving a nod to Allspice and Nutmegg, the SPICE agents.  Before continuing, Dree looked also at the others in the room and realized that he had their full attention.  They were waiting for him to continue.  Looking at King Dulbbe with Drat sitting next to him, then glancing over to Queen Ffion and Arnie, Dree continued.  "The Dragons need to stay in this realm if they are to heal the taint of their magic.  This can only be done through the exposure to the Nyte Shade's Heart.  This is the only way to cure the problem.  Either that or the Heart has to leave the Realm to be wherever the Dragons live.  It is my wish that if the Dragons stay, we must find a way for all to live together peacefully.  Though it has become apparent to me that peacefulness is not what Siate' and Aralt are looking for.  They are more interested in dominance."
Dree paused to see what reaction his speech was having over the others.  He noticed that everyone was either nodding in agreement to his observations or were waiting for him to finish.  Even Snoop, the Baron, and the Dowager were waiting for him to say his piece.  Taking in a long breath and slowly letting it out, Dree realized that these were his friends, they had become his family, and were with him.  "Hopefully they will still wish to be my family after they hear my plan," the Moon-Wish Dragon mumbled to himself.
"This is what I propose we do..." started Dree.  When the Moon Dragon's plan was presented to the others, Dree stopped talking to see their reaction.  It was Drat who broke the silence first.  It took Dree a minute to realize that his friend was laughing hard and was trying to keep it bottled up inside.  It didn't work.  Soon more of the group were laughing and Dree started to get a little uncomfortable.  Before Dree could ask what was wrong, Drat spoke.  "I am just picturing the look on Siate and Aralt's faces if your plan works.  I love it!"
As Dree looked at each of the others, he again realized, "These people are my FAMILY".  Quickly everyone started talking and writing down all the ways to help make Dree's plan work knowing that they would need to start soon before Siate' did.

Why not here???

"I was thinking about something you said," Nutmegg told the Dowager Griselda.  "You mentioned that you did not have mis-enchantments happening when the Dragons were here before.  That made me start thinking, why?  It happens everywhere else we have been."  "That's a good point," added in Allspice.  "What is here that keeps the wishes contained?"
Everyone was busy thinking about the question when the Baron finally answered.  "Maybe because this is where the Dragon's started from?" he asked.
"We have discovered that a Nyte Shade, one of Queen Ffion's ancestors, gave her magic to a dragon and that is how Dragon's became magical."  Now it was Nutmegg and Allspice's turn to be surprised as this was not known to them.  "That might explain why Siate' came back and why Aralt was here," Nutmegg murmured to Allspice.
As the questions started flying around the room, Queen Ffion raised her hand and softly said, " Let me share with you the story about the Nyte Shade and the dragon."  When she finished it was Nutmegg who asked, "Does anyone know where the small red stone in the cage is now?"  No one could answer his question for it had never been seen by anyone in the room.
Picture
"I am glad that you all are here," Griselda realized.  "For it must mean something.  We certainly would have never gone down this path without what Allspice and Nutmegg had told us.  Apparently there is something in this realm that affects the Dragon's magic making it more stable.  What that something may be is still an assumption.  But if the stone in the cage was not taken by the Dragon's when they left, then that could be a good reason why some of their mis-enchantments happen elsewhere as anything else.  What we have to do is figure a way to find out more about the mis-enchantment issue.  It might just be the key to both why the Dragons have returned and how to stop Aralt and Siate' from whatever their plan could be."
Picture
It was at this time that Fiddlefaddle entered the room with another unexpected guest.  It was Lil' Boots!  "Madam, Sir, I am sorry to interrupt, but I have someone who you may need to see.  He says his name is Lil' Boots and he needs to talk to two of your other guests, Nutmegg and Allspice."  Lil' Boots rushed right over to the two SPIs and quickly told them what he had overheard at the cave between Aralt and Siate'.
When he was finished, Allspice turned to the rest of the group and started to relay  about Lil' Boots overhearing a conversation and how he rushed over to warn everyone about what Aralt was told to do.  Finding out that Aralt was planning on abducting someone and take them back to Siate' for questioning did not make the others very happy.
"Thank you for the warning Lil' Boots and welcome back from the World of Whispers," King Dulbbe told him.  "When this situation is over with the Dragons, we will do everything we can to help get you back to your home."
Lil' Boots was so surprised that as he stood there blushing all he could say was "Ahhh, shucks.  Twasn't nothing.  Glad to help."
As the Baron was giving Fiddlefaddle instructions to notify certain people in the Village of Wymsy about Aralt's mission so they could be ready for him, it was Dree, the Moon Dragon, who addressed the others.  "We now have another question to ask the Oracle," said Dree.  "We had better get started."

Meeting and Tea...

Arnie was beginning to think that maybe she was in over her head.  "Oh, for the old days of just being a Borrower," thought Arnie.  With all of the talk about how to stop the Dragons from whatever their purpose was in returning to the Realm of Wymsy and what was Aralt's goals was making her almost wish for those days again.  "Be quiet and try not to be noticed," she  thought to herself as she stood in the tea room at the Baron's Mansion.
"As a Borrower, I would never had been invited into such a grand place like this," she knew.  "As a Finder, the others actually want me around."  It was a good feeling but with that feeling came a responsibility.  Now others relied on her and asked her opinions and thoughts.  "That is better and I like this feeling of being needed," she finally decided as her attention returned to what the others were talking about.
"... and then Nutmegg told us that he would try to bring his leader, named Allspice, here to meet with you," Dree finished telling the Dowager and Baron.  "That would be very good," Griselda answered.  "Hopefully King Dulbbe and Queen Ffion will arrive before they do."  Nodding his head, the Baron agreed with his mother.  "Maybe this will give us another advantage over the Dragons," he said.  "With Dree's Oracle and the help from SPICE, we might just be able to outmaneuver Siate' and her herald."
As they waited, tea and cookies were served while the Dowager sat with Arnie telling her what she needed Arnie to find.  "I have things that have been missing for a long time, and anything you can help me find would be greatly appreciated.  Since the Goodie sisters gave you their cottage, you won't be so far away and can visit when you want," the Dowager was telling her.
Picture
The others were looking over the Oracle and discussing what questions to ask it and what more could they learn from the Moon Dragon who created it.  "I feel that we don't have much time before Siate' and Aralt do whatever they are planning," Dree told the others, "So I think we need to decide what questions to ask the Oracle otherwise we might end wasting a lot of time.  As much as I would like to know my kin's past, we need to focus on what is happening now."  The others agreed and as they continued their discussion, Fiddlefaddle entered the tea room with King Dulbbe and Queen Ffion.  Shortly they were brought up to date on what was found in the Gooblin King's treasures and the meeting with Nutmegg.  As Fiddlefaddle was refreshing the tea, the other guests arrived and were shown into the tea room.
Picture
"Hello.  I am Nutmegg," said the Hobb-goblyn as Dree and Drat nodded their heads in greeting.  "This is my boss, Allspice."

It was the Dowager who started the conversation.  "Greetings Nutmegg and Allspice.  Welcome to our home.  Dree tells us that you are SPIs whose goal is to return those who suffer from a Wish Dragon's mis-enchantment."
"I am not sure I understand what might cause mis-enchantments as we did not have that problem when the Wish Dragon's were here before.  We just had to watch how  literal they could be was our problem with the Wish Dragons," the Dowager said.  "If someone asked for a gold mine, they might find themselves in the middle of a mountain somewhere surrounded by gold but not able to return with it.  What is a mis-enchantment?" she asked.
"That is a good question, madam.  Let me see if I can explain," answered Allspice.  "With a mis-enchantment, a wish granted by the Wish Dragon may be successful but sometimes others in the area of where the wish was granted just up and disappear.  We just recently recovered one of these victims who described the place he was transported to as the World of Whispers.  Apparently it is a white glistening world that time does not hold.  As Lil' Boots was there for a long time and never had to sleep or eat.  Those trapped there could be heard but only as a whisper on the wind.  We don't know why there are mis-enchantments, but we have found a way to bring them back.  Sometimes when they return they are changed in some way but after visiting one of our Fae healers, they usually return to how they were before."
Picture
"And how do you bring the mis-enchanted back?" asked Drat.  Allspice and Nutmegg looked at each other and it was Allspice who decided to tell the others their secret.  "We provide the Dragons with Ambrosia.  They love the taste and when a Wish Dragon belches, we usually get someone back.  The only problem is that it takes a lot of Ambrosia to make it work and that takes time to brew."
After the silence that followed the explanation, it was Drat and Dree who started laughing first.  Soon the laughter was infectious and everyone was snickering.  "Imagine, a burping Dragon," laughed Drat.  "Now I know what to get you to drink the next time you start those bad knock, knock jokes," the rat said to Dree.
When the laughter was contained, Dree spoke.  "I think it is time to ask the Oracle our questions and now I think I know what to ask it," he said as he started to open the bag that held the magical trinket.

To Give Thanks...

Even with the concerns for the future with the Dragons returning, the fall harvest was still gathered and the traditional harvest meal was being prepared.  This is a time for the folk who live in the Realm of Wymsy to come together and share in the bounty that was available to them both from the magics of the realm and what they had spent the seasons cultivating.
What was special about this year's celebration was that the Baron and his mother, the dowager Griselda, were hosting the Harvest Event at the Baron's Mansion.
As the Baron was discussing the seating arrangements with Snoop since both were nobility in their own ways, the dowager was directing their servants Fiddlefaddle and Sneefle in their duties.  "Now don't forget, today you will be serving our guests more than you will be catering to my son's or my needs," she reminded them over and over again.
Both of them just smiled as they were already well aware that they would have to keep an eye on the Baron and his mother.  Knowing that if they were happy with the event, then so would be the servants.  "Besides, after it is over I might even get a day off to put up my sore feet," thought Fiddlefaddle to himself.
Picture
Meanwhile, Granny Flare was busy in the kitchens in the back of the mansion making sure that everything would be ready for the feast.  As she checked each item as it was prepared, Gardner was bringing in the fresh vegetables and fruit that he had grown specially for just this occasion.  "Here is the last of it," he told Granny as he set the heavy crate down on the kitchen floor.  "Is there anything else you need brought in?" he asked as he stood besides a large boiling pot and enjoying the wonderous aroma that it was making.  Granny just smiled as she gave him a couple of the hot pumpkin spice cookies that had just come out of an oven and shooed him outside as she told him to come back in a couple of hours.  "By then I will know if I need anything else," she told him.
Picture
"Being a king doesn't seem to give to many benefits," thought Dulbbe as he was busy scrubbing the dirty pots and pans. Then just as soon as he was finished with them, Granny Flare would send someone over to take them so she could start cooking something else.  That someone was usually Queen Ffion who the Troll King had a crush on... "Well, there are a few perks," he told himself as he kept scrubbing with a little smile.
In the grand ballroom Efem, Cornelia, Parsley, and Nemmer were busy cleaning and setting up the decorations.  The dusty mytes were being extra careful (and under the watchful eye of Nemmer) to only suck in the dust as they cleaned instead of blowing any out.  "All we need is for them to make everyone forget today," Nemmer thought as he kept one eye on them while he was helping with the decorations.
And finally, there were many more helping outside in preparing for the arrival of those who were invited.  Since everyone in the Realm was on the guest list except for the Wysps  (who would show up invited or not if whoever held the leadership stick felt like it), that meant that a lot of chairs, tables, and tenting was needing to be setup.  Dewin, the wizard, was using his magic to have the folding chairs unfold and stand up where he directed while Scarlet was watching over the Nytemares as they dragged in the tables and large tents.
So, as all of those who live in the Realm of Wymsy prepare for this thanksgiving feast, we at MisPlace Dolls would like to thank all of you on this Thanksgiving Holiday as we come together to celebrate.

Happy Thanksgiving!

What is his power???

1/17/2024

Picture

As Aralt was listening to the complaining Wysps, the Village council members were trying to find out what power Aralt held over the Dragons.  Were Awena's concerns that this was the beginning of the prophecy of when the Dragons return would create many changes truly happening?  Most of council were not concerned about normal changes, but when Dragons were involved, changes seemed to be on a larger and more unmanageable scale.
The council meeting broke up as soon as everyone learned that Aralt had managed to leave Meen behind.  With him disappearing the Dowager immediately sent Meen to warn Drat that the Herald may be heading towards the caves where Drat and Dree were supposed to be hiding out.
Awena also wasted no time and went directly to her library to find the Dragon's Return prophecy to see if there might be a clue to reveal what Aralt's power over the Dragons might be.  As she sorted through the many prophecy scrolls, more than once she thought that they should have some sort of index to be able to find the one she was looking for faster.  "Once this is over, I will have to meet with the staff to figure something out," she told herself as she put another scroll aside in her search for the right one.
Queen Ffion had the same idea.  With as many rooms as she had in her castle library, she might have something to help them.  Possibly even the green orb might know.  King Dulbbe was more than happy to assist her as it again gave him an excuse to spend more time with Ffion.  "If only she could see how much I adore her," he thought as they started looking through each room in the library.  They had not yet made it to the room where the green Dragon orb normally was stored as it sat glowing brightly as if waiting for their arrival.
Picture
Normally Efem would almost dread having to enter the Sacred Grove to talk to the ancient trees but not this trip.  Since learning they could speed talk, she hoped they would respond quickly to her requests for knowledge that only they knew from the roots of the Realm's past.  "I hope that the Ol' Yew is not asleep," she thought as she approached the mighty tree.  As she stood next to it and looked upon it's shiny green foliage, Efem was awed by a random thought of how much it must have seen during its life cycle.  "I remember my mother bringing me here to see the Yew when I was a young sapling and the Yew was ancient even then."  As she silently waited for the tree to notice her so she could ask her questions about Aralt the Herald, Efem was contently lost in her own memories of the past.
"One of the stories of the ages and I don't know where to start," thought Snoop as he sat at his desk in the Bellwether and tried to put quill to parchment.  "I promised the Dowager that I would not print anything that would give Aralt a clue as to Dree, but I have to print something!"
Picture
After a few more attempts to scratch out a story and discarding them, an idea hit him.  Almost physically!  Snoop kept copies of other newspapers he collected to compare writing styles and to maybe get ideas from how other papers laid out theirs.  He even saved copies from what the 'Outies' published whenever Passporte' would bring one to him from his travels.
It was his pile of the Herald newspapers that came crashing down from a shelf and just missing hitting him on the head that made him think... "Herald!  That's it!  I need to write about what we know about Aralt the Dragon Herald.  That way I won't give away what we know about Dree.  Plus I can get the word out that he has returned.  This will be a terrific article!"  Right away Snoop was lost in his writing and not even wondering any longer if Aralt might have found the caves where Dree was hiding.
As everyone else was busy with trying to find out about Aralt's past, there was one that was looking towards the future.  Nemmer left the meeting knowing what he had to do.  Nemmer decided it would also be a good thing to know just where Aralt was and possibly keep him from finding Dree if he could.  "I might not have been able to be the first to find Hungry (oops Dree), when he was lost before. But I can definitely be the first to find some wandering troublesome Herald in the woods," the Archer knew as he put on his mask and started following Aralt's tracks on the trail.

Who's in Charge???

The next morning Aralt left his home and started to the council building.  He had not sent a message ahead to let the others know he was coming as he figured that if he took his time someone would notice him and inform the others.  "Minions are so useful that way," he thought as he noticed one.  Meen, (he thought someone had called her) was leaping around acting like she wasn't watching for him.
"Hhhmm, the Sleeping Sisters are also involved," Aralt realized when he recognized the bird as a magpie sitting in a tree behind the other minion.  "I do wonder what this council has been up to in my absence."
As Meen caught sight of the Herald coming out of his home, she quickly jumped the last log as she tried to get back to the council chamber to alert the others of his approach.  "This spying stuff is fun," Meen thought to herself.  "I can actually play my favorite game of Leap without even getting into trouble."  But she apparently did not need to worry too much of Aralt beating her to the council chamber.  "He seems to be stopping at several of the local shops and apparently taking his own sweet time to arrive at the chamber.  I wonder if he is part Pkysee like me since he seems to be playing instead of worrying about getting to the meeting," Meen pondered for a moment.  Aralt even stopped by the local brewer to place an order of Dragon's Brew to be delivered to his home later today.  It wasn't until he finished his tea and biscuit at the teashop that he finally started towards the chambers.  "That should have given those silly council members plenty of time to arrive," he smiled, knowing that he was subtlety letting them know who will be in charge of this meeting.
When he walked through the chamber doorway, he was not surprised to see several of the town councilors already seated and waiting for his arrival.  He noticed immediately the Sleeping Sister by her headpiece and serene look as if she was meditating and biding her time.  "Is that a reporter sitting next to her?"  Aralt thought to himself.  "He must be since he has a copy of the Bellwether laying on the desk and scribbling away with his quill.  The others are only a guess."
Picture
"But I would have to surmise with this mix of citizens here, the Troll and the young Nyte Shade must be important as well as the older couple in the corner."  As if they heard his unspoken thoughts, the older couple both turned their attention to him.

"I am the Dowager Griselda and this is my son Baron Belvedere Allowishes Theodore Steffon.  Our greetings from one of the last members of the Dragon Clan to you Herald," she spoke to Aralt (sounding to him like she was royalty waiting for him to deliver a message).  Aralt took a slow breath and only nodded his head and waited for her to continue the introductions.  It took a minute before the Dowager realized what the Herald was waiting for before she continued.
"This is Queen Ffion of the Shadows' Realm, King Dulbbe of the Trolls, Awena of the Sleeping Sisters, and Efem the Tree Mother.  The others are citizens of the Realms who are here to witness this historic occasion.  We also have Augustus, The Earl of Grey, who is also the editor of the local newspaper, The Bellwether, to record this news worthy event."
Aralt let the silence last a little longer when the introductions were completed.  "I must show them I am in charge here," he thought as he silently walked to a corner of the room so all had to turn to see him.  "I am Aralt the Herald.  I speak to and for the Dragons and the Clans and will prepare the way for the return of the Dragons.  Soon they will return and we must be prepared to make sure they cause no chaos nor reek havoc among the fae folk or the Outies.  I will meet with their leader, the most powerful of their kind - a Wish Dragon.  Upon her return I will re-establish the rules of order laid down by me in the past for their conduct.  If I need your assistance, I will ask for it then.  I expect you will all be available and require each of you to have a runner or setup a message system so that I may contact you when I need your assistance.  If there are no questions, then we are adjourned," he finished as he started towards the chamber doors.
"But what about Hungry?" Meen uttered to Queen Ffion.  "I mean Dre..." she started to add before she saw the look she was getting from all of the others.  "Opps..." she muttered as she tried to find someplace to to look other than at everyone who was glaring at her.
"What was that all about," thought Aralt as he slowly was walking towards the open doors.  "Maybe I should see if there is something I should know."  Looking at everyone now watching him and not saying a word, the Herald decided that he definitely was missing something.  "They should all be complaining or trying to get me to say something more," he pondered and then realized, "they are waiting for me to leave.  Yes, there is definitely something else going on here."
Picture
Deciding on a new tact, he stopped just short of the doorway and turned back towards the council.  "I am sorry.  Being alone for so many years has made me a little brusque in my ways.  I am concerned for the safety of everyone in the Realms and sometimes I do not present myself as cordial as I should.  I have been gone for so long and so many things have changed, I would like to meet with all of you to see what I should know that will help me prepare for the Dragon's return," he finished as he sat down in one of the nearby chairs and awaited their response.
It was slow in coming.  Actually it was none as no one wanted to be the first to speak back.  "I came on too strong," Aralt realized as he waited.  "I will have to start this."
"Dowager Griselda, I am honored to be met by a member of the Dragon Clan.  I will rely on your assistance upon the Dragons return as you are one of the few who really understand the importance of what I need to do.  We must keep the Dragons under our control if we are to maintain the peace and harmony of our way of life."
As the Dowager remembered the incident with the scroll showing her past and why the Dragon clan was formed, she knew that their decision not to tell the Herald about Dree, the Moon Dragon, had been for the best.

Delay and Distract...

When the villagers realized that the parade was over and Aralt wasn't going to make another appearance, the crowd began to drift back to what they had been doing before the Herald had arrived.  "Guess it's time to get back to work," smiled Snoop, the editor and owner of the local newspaper the Bellwether, as he pulled out his quill and started writing down the events of the day for the evening edition of the paper.
Not everyone else was smiling though.  Especially not the town council members who had glanced at each other when Aralt had disappeared behind his doors and now started back to the council chambers.  They definitely needed to talk.
Shortly all of them were sitting around the conference table thinking about what to say at the meeting.  Each of the councilors had their chief minion there in case an errand or message needed to be delivered awaiting in the chairs spaced against the wall of the chamber. Even if they were longingly gazing at the buffet table that Granny Flare and Cornelia had setup for everyone to snack on,  they understood the importance of the events of day.
Finally it was the Dowager who started the conversation.  "Well, that went well."
Those four words were all it took to get everyone talking at the same time.  "Who would have thought he would be so short and I don't just mean in stature," snapped one member.  "How can he think I will let him stay on the grounds of my castle," growled Queen Ffion.  "What are we going to do now?" both Awena and Dulbbe silently thought to themselves as they listened to the others talk.
Finally, when the room became quiet again, it was the Baron who spoke.  "Well, yes, I was expecting Aralt to be a little friendlier," shaking his head as he couldn't understand this as he was friendly with everyone he met.  "But the question is what will we do now?  It appears by his actions that he might not be as open to us as we had hoped," continued the Baron.
Picture
Each of the council members sat quietly, thinking about the Baron's question.  Indeed, what do we do now?  It was a quandary.  "There is one thing we probably should do," grumbled Nemmer as he watched the others staring at each other around the table.  "Maybe we need to hide Dree until we know more about this Herald business."
It took a minute, as the others were heavy in thought about the situation, before they realized what Nemmer had just muttered.  "Nemmer is right," smiled the Dowager.  "Dree should be hidden until we know enough about Aralt before they meet.  We don't want the two of them to get off on the wrong foot.  But I also don't think they should meet until we find out what the Herald's plans are first."
After a short discussion, the rest of the council agreed with the Dowager, but who to send?  For they needed to distract Dree and to keep him away until the council had their chance to find out Aralt's plan and that wouldn't be easy.
"I could send Meen," volunteered Queen Ffion as Meen jumped from her chair when she heard her name.
"No disrespect to you or your minion, Queen Ffion," answered Awena, " But we need someone who might be able to distract Dree as to the arrival of the Herald but not spill the beans about him.  Meen would get so caught up playing and probably tell Dree everything since she is a twiddletop when it comes to keeping secrets."  The conversation continued for some time, going back and forth on who would be best to inform the Dragon, but it wasn't until Dulbbe, the Troll King, made his offer before they selected the messenger.
Picture
"Tell me again why you think I should be the one to distract the Dragon?  Am I supposed to let him eat me? For that won't take long and then you will be right back to the same problem," Drat said.
"Quit being so dramatic.  You have meet him before and he knows you work for me... and besides, of all of the others here that can be sent on this errand - we both know you are the best choice," answered the Troll King as he looked directly into his minions eyes.
Realizing that his boss was both correct and actually giving him a compliment, Drat blushed slightly and bowed his head.  "As you command Sire," he replied as he departed on his errand.
"Well, it got me out of what looked like a long and boring meeting," thought Drat as he darted down the street to the caves under the Baron's mansion all the time working up a plan to keep the Dragon busy without letting him know he was being hidden away again for now.  "I wonder if I can get him into a game of Tic Tac Toe?  That could take a while if he doesn't know that secret.  But I will definitely need to let him know that it doesn't require body parts or eating."

With the information that Ffion and Dulbbe had received, everyone realized that it was time to meet and discuss what was to be done.  It was quickly decided to hold the meeting at the Shadows' Realm castle since both Ffion and Dulbbe were already there and it might be helpful for everyone to have the Dragon orb available if any more questions might come up.  Soon the council was all there to include the one whom any decision that came out of this meeting would most affect - Dree, the new Moon Dragon.
Griselda then spoke up saying "We have learned something about our past.  We now are aware who Aralt is and I have told you of my experience with the magical scroll and of the forming of the Wish Dragon clan by Aralt.  It wasn't the family nurturing clan I grew up in that's for sure.  Who knew that the clan originally was created to control the Dragons more than to work with them," the Dowager said shaking her head slightly side to side as she remembered her vision of that council meeting.

"We have also heard from King Dulbbe and Queen Ffion about the potential dangers of a ruling Wish Dragon according to the past stories of the She-Dragon," finished Griselda.
Everyone looked at each other, waiting to see if someone would start the conversation they all knew had to happen.  It was Awena who began.  "We need to create a plan to minimize the chaos of the arrival of the Herald and the Dragon's return.  I have searched the records of the Sleeping Sisters and have found nothing that will aid us in this problem.  The only ancient text or prophesy that was discovered is extremely vague.  The most we can confirm is that all realms are in danger if the Dragon's are no more and the game is lost.  We have not found out what is meant by 'this game of power' nor what would make all of the Dragons disappear," she said and sat down on one of the many chairs in the audience chamber.
"You have all heard what we have found out about the returning Dragons.  Do you  have any further questions of the Dragon orb?" Griselda asked the others.  "If not - then now is the time we must decide what we can do.  The one major question we cannot answer is does Aralt know we now have a Moon Dragon here in the Realms?"  What do you think of this Dree?" finished Griselda as all turned to look at the young Moon Dragon.
Dree was totally caught off guard.  He had been listening to everyone's discoveries and was picturing in his mind what the other Dragons would look like and how they would act, but he had not been following the Dowager's final comments.  So with a startled look  he realized everyone was staring at him and waiting for his comments.
After a few gulps, he finally started to speak.  "Excuse me for not paying attention at everything that has been said here, but I have been listening and thinking.  I understand both from your discoveries of the Orb and from the reading I have been doing from some books that Granny Flare gave to me what it meant to be a Wish Dragon.  I am just now getting my wings under me in trying to find out what a Moon Dragon may be.  I am hoping this Herald can help me discover what it is that I am supposed to do," he said.  Taking a slow breath Dree continued, "But, I also know that he is a stranger to me while all of you are my family.  I may be a Dragon, and formerly of the Wish Dragon Clan, but you have all raised me and have helped me become what I am now so you are my clan too.  I do not know if there is anything I can do to prepare for the coming of my kin, but I do feel that I should learn all that I can to be prepared for their arrival," Dree told the others.
Picture
"Dree, you are part of our family too," answered Efem as she walked over to him and squeezed his hand.  "After talking to the trees in the Sacred Grove, I now have gotten to the root of what they were trying to tell me.  It is this, you can prepare all you want, but when the game of power starts, all you can do is play along and hope you know the rules.  We will help you all that we can, but in the end, it will be your decision as to what will happen.  I am sorry to have to put all of that burden upon you, but I believe that you are up to the task and we will all support you."
Everyone in the room stood and bowed to the young Moon Dragon to show him their support.  It was almost too much for the Dragon, but he finally did look back at them all and said a simple "Thank you."
It was then that the Goodie Sisters and Parsley entered the chamber and announced that the meal they had been preparing was ready... was anyone hungry?  Dree started laughing and said "No, I'm Dree now - but I am still Hungry!"

The Orb's Answers...

Dulbbe needed to act quickly before Ffion started yelling at the orb again about it not answering her questions and before he lost his train of thought.  Adjusting his glasses so he could look deeper into the orb he asked,  "Orb, tell us about the Herald and Dragons returning,"
Ffion gave him a quick glare and then realized that the orb did not immediately go into its standard response of "Your question is incomplete..."  Returning her gaze back to the orb, it stopped flashing and began to speak.
"The Herald, Aralt, is preparing his travels now and will return to this Realm before the Dragons arrive.  Once he has returned the Dragons will be able to follow his path."
"How long will that take?" asked Ffion to the orb.

"The Herald will arrive soon.  How long after that for the Dragons to arrive will depend on what the Herald does to summon them," the orb answered.
"And then you said the Shadows' King will return?" asked Dulbbe.

"Yes," was the short response returned by the orb.
Turning to the Queen, Dulbbe smiled. "See, the Shadows' King is safe and he is returning.  Now we need to find out as much as we can about the Dragons' return to help the others.  Don't you agree?"
Picture
He could see the consternation on Ffion's face, but she was her father's daughter and he had taught her well about being a ruler.  The people of her realm must come first.
"You are right," she answered.  "I am sorry... but I worry so about my father and I miss him so!" she said with a tear at the corner of one eye.  It was at that moment that Dulbbe wanted to take her in his arms and comfort her but still he hesitated.  "I still am just a bookkeeper," he thought to himself.  "I will one day be worthy."
Turning to the orb, Dulbbe asked his next question.  "Tell us what you can about this Herald."
"The Herald is the one assigned by the Great Council of the Realms.  He will be wearing a dragon insignia since he is in communication with the Dragons, especially the Wish Dragons.  By doing so this keeps the dragons from creating havoc and chaos in all of the Realms.  The first and only Herald is Aralt as no others have ever held the office.  He helped form the Dragon Clan system and works with the ruling Wish Dragon.  The current Wish Dragon is a female who rules over all other Dragons," said the orb.
Picture
Ffion and Dulbbe looked a little confused at each other as neither had ever heard about this Herald before.  They were both surprised also to hear that a Wish Dragon was the ruler of Dragons.  Before Dulbbe asked his next question, Ffion asked hers.  "I thought Dragons did not have a ruler per se.  How did a Wish Dragon become their ruler?"
"The Wish Dragon is the most powerful Dragon until a Moon Dragon is born.  No Moon Dragons exist," the orb answered.  Startled by this information, Dulbbe and Ffion both looked at each other thinking the same thought.  Dree, who was a Wish Dragon before his recent transformation, was now a Moon Dragon.

As the orb continued, both listened intently on what it was telling them.  "The Herald helps the ruling Wish Dragon in keeping the continuity of the magic the Dragons use so as not to disrupt the harmony of all.  In the beginning when dragons first received their magical powers and became mystical Dragons, they did not control what magics they did.  Many mundane and magicals were hurt and destroyed.  The Wish Dragons were among the mightiest of all magic welders!  They could grant wishes that could change anything.  The consequences of many of these granted wishes are still present here in the Realms."
Both Dulbbe and Ffion knew that this was information that the others needed to know right away.  If the Dragons were really returning and a Wish Dragon would be their leader this would be a whole new world for them to return to.  For they did not  know that a Moon Dragon now existed.  Also how would this change things for Dree (a.k.a. Hungry), the newly wet behind the ears Moon Dragon?
"You keep the orb talking," Ffion told Dulbbe as she headed towards the doorway.  "I will send a flutterby to the Dowager and Awena.  They need to know what we have found out."
