"What's this? Be My Valentine?" Apparently every year the newspaper publishes a few of the letters it receives from the locals looking for love... "and this year is no exception it seems," Griselda mumbles while perusing the page.
"... so, apparently these letters will continue until Valentines Day. I wonder who will be in the next edition of the Bellwether," she thought to herself. "I wonder... do I date... I mean dare?"

"They always want to talk about worms, algae, and school. Never seen anybody who loves school as much as the fish do,” thought Acorn. As he entered the caves, he was still thinking about the fish and how he didn’t really want to visit with them if he did not find anything here. Thus distracted, he did not notice the movement from inside of the cave, but a sound did reach his ears. It was a scrapping type of noise, like claws scratching on stone. As he approached the spot where he thought he heard the noise someone stepped out of the darkness behind him and cleared their throat. “Ahem… and what can I do for you?” Acorn, quickly recovering from discovering that someone was able to sneak up on him (that was his special skill he thought) flew up into the air several feet and turned to see who spoke. “And you are?” he asked. “I am the Baroness Dragonia, and you are…?” she said, placing a pause at the end of her question as if she was waiting for him to finish it. Regaining his impish demeanor, Acorn replied, “a Fae with questions”. There, that should confuse her. “And, why would a baroness be in a dark cave on such a beautiful day? What is here that would take you away from your mansion?”
Walking deeper into the cave, they finally came to a small opening leading into another chamber. A light inside would brighten and then dim, brighten and dim, a steady repetition. Dragonia stopped outside of the opening and looked at Acorn one more time before stepping inside of the smaller cave. “Acorn, I need your help as this is more than I can handle on my own. I discovered it by accident and now it seems to be coming alive.” As Acorn entered the opening he could see deeper into the chamber and saw nestled in a pile of stones a Dragon’s egg! And it was hatching!
Acorn had nothing to say. His tongue was frozen in place and his heart nearly stopped. “It is a… a… dragon ‘s egg” he finally was able to stammer. The ‘itch’ was burning furiously between his wings – he had found the reason and was now not sure if he had made a mistake in finding it. Art from the Soul - 2017 I do like doing the Art from the Soul competition. It gives me the opportunity to look back in time and remind me why I do the art that I do. The requirement for the competition is to complete a piece of art that reflects an emotion. Gardner, my garden Brownie, has a toothy smile that hopefully makes one just smile when looking at him. Creating his toothy smile took me outside of my comfort zone. This is what art will do for me, take me to some unknown space to explore and discover… all within the safety of my own home and personal space.
At this time there seems to be a battle of darkness around me. So many people’s fears, anger, and hate which affect my perspective of my art and what I chose to reveal about myself. But art also allows me to change my destiny and my perspective. Just by putting my toothy laugh in my art, I have the choice of how I choose to present my inner-self to the Darkness. This little gardener, small as he is, awakened a piece of my soul, allowing it to come to life like a seed reaching for the sunlight. He took me down a garden path I haven’t seen before. He helped me create a haven where I could escape the Darkness of Reality for just a few minutes. Art captured that nurturing energy of Love and Peace which grows in my garden transforming it into my garden Brownie. Art feeds my Soul with seeds of inspiration and lets the sound of laughter beam down like rays of sunshine.
Now I am ready for winter to be over and spring to arrive... I finally captured Gardner long enough to get him to work with me on some clothing ideas. Selecting colors is so hard for me, almost as hard as sculpting in the first place. Colors reflect the mood and personality of the character. The colors also assist in capturing the eye of the observer who is looking at the character. Contrast is important to any piece of Artwork. The contrast of light to shadows and from the colors of yellow to blue all add to a successful piece. That is why picking the right shades of colors can be difficult.
I am trying to help Gardner get his act together but he is on his own where True Love is concerned. Inconceivable... (for all of you Princess Bride fans)!!! Enjoy your Valentine's Day.
