Dragonfaust had scored again - another bachelor lost!  Hazelwyn finished typing up her article for the Bellwether and for that sweet young editor, Snoop.  Well, some may not think Snoop as young, but compared to Hazelwyn, he could be another bachelor in trouble of being taken off of the single status list at next year's Dragonfaust.
"Now where did I put my glasses?" Hazelwyn thought then gave a silly little giggle as she realized that they were on top of her head as usual.
"I need to get this article over to the office before they close and using the Twitter birds just won't do," Hazelwyn continued to think as she walked around her small cottage.  "Plus the Mushroom Line is only good for gossip, not for a reliable story like mine."
She slipped on the wooly clogs for her feet and began to pull on one more shawl over her head to protect her from the chilly wind blowing outside.  Hazelwyn then opened the door and took one more look to see if she had what she needed.  With a wave of her hand over her the doorknob, a small glittery light swirled and settled on the lock.  "Even in this safe neighborhood, it never hurts to protect oneself and one's home," Hazelwyn said to herself.   With a satisfied smile, she turned and proceeded to start her long walk to the newspaper office in the village.
As Hazelwyn was dreamily thinking of how brillant Snoop was going to think her article was, Roslie came out of a side path.  "Good day Fae one," Roslie said.
A little surprised but always happy to meet someone to talk to, Hazelwyn replied, "Good day Fae one.  You are new to our community aren't you?" she asked as they both continued walking towards the village.  With a curiousity only surpassed by Snoop's desire to know, Hazelwyn knew she had an opportunity here too good to pass up.  Roslie replied that yes, she was new as she had been part of the rescue of the World of Whispers and was still learning her way around.
Picture
Hazelwyn, always the newspaper reporter, asked "So what did you think of our recent  holiday of Dragonfaust and how our village does what it can in the match making department?"  "I will admit," said Roslie, "It wasn't what I was expecting but it was fun to see Lallan 'bag' Seamus finally.  She has been mooning over him forever from what I hear and was just tired of waiting for him to make his first move."
"Yes, they have been the talk of the village.  We even had odds on if she was going to bag him this year," answered Hazelwyn.  "With the long odds, I made a bundle on my Dragonfaust Pool bet."
Picture
"I have to drop off my article at the Bellwether.  Would you like to meet up at the Sugar Plum Bakery for some tea and crumpets?  I would love to hear more of your story, Roslie," said Hazelwyn as she reached the door to the Bellwether office.

What is Dragonfaust???

"Well that certainly made me jump," thought Roslie to herself as she continued staring at the local newspaper hanging on a wall of the library near a tall bookshelf filled with books of all types - all with colorful binders and ribbons tied around them.
"We weren't lucky enough to have an actual newspaper in my small village.  We had to spread the word through reliable gossips, but these moving pictures are a blast to see," Roslie confirmed to herself.
Roslie took a seat to get comfortable in and continued her exploration of this mysterious Realm of Wymsy's annual holiday.
"Now to find out what this Dragonfaust is all about," she mumbled to herself.  Reading silently she started to scan down the pages of the local newspaper, the Bellwether.
Dragonfaust seems to be celebrated on the 1st of each March and at the same time during the celebration of the magical New Year.  "Hmmmm, I wonder if that was intentional?" Roslie asked herself.
As she continued to read about Dragonfaust, she came to a spot in the article that surprised her!  "That's silly!" she said a little too loud for others in the library looked up from their books and scrolls and gave her the 'won't you be quiet' look.
Picture
Roslie smiled with a slight blush and quickly nodded her head so it looked like she was reading.  "Those silly Wish Dragons have been causing chaos for quite a while.  Whoever heard of granting wishes for young lasses who want romance.  The lasses would be better off asking for the cow that jumped over the moon for what Wish Dragons know about romance," she grumbled as she continued reading.
"Ohhhh... now that is an interesting twist," smiled Roslie.  "There seems to be some type of race or chase here.  Something about dragging a lad across some Dragonfaust finish line.  Who would be a good person to ask more about this holiday?"

Who's in Charge???

The next morning Aralt left his home and started to the council building.  He had not sent a message ahead to let the others know he was coming as he figured that if he took his time someone would notice him and inform the others.  "Minions are so useful that way," he thought as he noticed one.  Meen, (he thought someone had called her) was leaping around acting like she wasn't watching for him.
"Hhhmm, the Sleeping Sisters are also involved," Aralt realized when he recognized the bird as a magpie sitting in a tree behind the other minion.  "I do wonder what this council has been up to in my absence."
As Meen caught sight of the Herald coming out of his home, she quickly jumped the last log as she tried to get back to the council chamber to alert the others of his approach.  "This spying stuff is fun," Meen thought to herself.  "I can actually play my favorite game of Leap without even getting into trouble."  But she apparently did not need to worry too much of Aralt beating her to the council chamber.  "He seems to be stopping at several of the local shops and apparently taking his own sweet time to arrive at the chamber.  I wonder if he is part Pkysee like me since he seems to be playing instead of worrying about getting to the meeting," Meen pondered for a moment.  Aralt even stopped by the local brewer to place an order of Dragon's Brew to be delivered to his home later today.  It wasn't until he finished his tea and biscuit at the teashop that he finally started towards the chambers.  "That should have given those silly council members plenty of time to arrive," he smiled, knowing that he was subtlety letting them know who will be in charge of this meeting.
When he walked through the chamber doorway, he was not surprised to see several of the town councilors already seated and waiting for his arrival.  He noticed immediately the Sleeping Sister by her headpiece and serene look as if she was meditating and biding her time.  "Is that a reporter sitting next to her?"  Aralt thought to himself.  "He must be since he has a copy of the Bellwether laying on the desk and scribbling away with his quill.  The others are only a guess."
Picture
"But I would have to surmise with this mix of citizens here, the Troll and the young Nyte Shade must be important as well as the older couple in the corner."  As if they heard his unspoken thoughts, the older couple both turned their attention to him.
Picture
"I am the Dowager Griselda and this is my son Baron Belvedere Allowishes Theodore Steffon.  Our greetings from one of the last members of the Dragon Clan to you Herald," she spoke to Aralt (sounding to him like she was royalty waiting for him to deliver a message).  Aralt took a slow breath and only nodded his head and waited for her to continue the introductions.  It took a minute before the Dowager realized what the Herald was waiting for before she continued.
"This is Queen Ffion of the Shadows' Realm, King Dulbbe of the Trolls, Awena of the Sleeping Sisters, and Efem the Tree Mother.  The others are citizens of the Realms who are here to witness this historic occasion.  We also have Augustus, The Earl of Grey, who is also the editor of the local newspaper, The Bellwether, to record this news worthy event."
Aralt let the silence last a little longer when the introductions were completed.  "I must show them I am in charge here," he thought as he silently walked to a corner of the room so all had to turn to see him.  "I am Aralt the Herald.  I speak to and for the Dragons and the Clans and will prepare the way for the return of the Dragons.  Soon they will return and we must be prepared to make sure they cause no chaos nor reek havoc among the fae folk or the Outies.  I will meet with their leader, the most powerful of their kind - a Wish Dragon.  Upon her return I will re-establish the rules of order laid down by me in the past for their conduct.  If I need your assistance, I will ask for it then.  I expect you will all be available and require each of you to have a runner or setup a message system so that I may contact you when I need your assistance.  If there are no questions, then we are adjourned," he finished as he started towards the chamber doors.
"But what about Hungry?" Meen uttered to Queen Ffion.  "I mean Dre..." she started to add before she saw the look she was getting from all of the others.  "Opps..." she muttered as she tried to find someplace to to look other than at everyone who was glaring at her.
"What was that all about," thought Aralt as he slowly was walking towards the open doors.  "Maybe I should see if there is something I should know."  Looking at everyone now watching him and not saying a word, the Herald decided that he definitely was missing something.  "They should all be complaining or trying to get me to say something more," he pondered and then realized, "they are waiting for me to leave.  Yes, there is definitely something else going on here."
Picture
Deciding on a new tact, he stopped just short of the doorway and turned back towards the council.  "I am sorry.  Being alone for so many years has made me a little brusque in my ways.  I am concerned for the safety of everyone in the Realms and sometimes I do not present myself as cordial as I should.  I have been gone for so long and so many things have changed, I would like to meet with all of you to see what I should know that will help me prepare for the Dragon's return," he finished as he sat down in one of the nearby chairs and awaited their response.
It was slow in coming.  Actually it was none as no one wanted to be the first to speak back.  "I came on too strong," Aralt realized as he waited.  "I will have to start this."
"Dowager Griselda, I am honored to be met by a member of the Dragon Clan.  I will rely on your assistance upon the Dragons return as you are one of the few who really understand the importance of what I need to do.  We must keep the Dragons under our control if we are to maintain the peace and harmony of our way of life."
As the Dowager remembered the incident with the scroll showing her past and why the Dragon clan was formed, she knew that their decision not to tell the Herald about Dree, the Moon Dragon, had been for the best.

It is Hot out there...

The Realm of Wymsy is in the middle of a heat wave.  With the Dragons returning, things have been heating up.  Everyone knew that with their return everything was going to be one really hot sticky mess and the Villagers are trying to get through it the best way that they can.  Which made me, Augustus (AKA Snoop, the editor of the local newspaper, the Bellwether) realize that there was a story here.
As I went out of my office to see how the villagers were dealing with this unusual heat wave, I spied Gardner, the garden Brownie.  He of course was sitting in the shade of a tree taking a nap in his wheelbarrow.  What was his secret?  He popped open one eye when I noticed that he seemed to be very comfortable.  "It's getting the dirt wet first in the barrow before laying on it," Gardner replied to my question.  "I get dirty in my job either way, but this way I stay cool," he continued with a wink.

Knowing that this method would definitely not work with Granny Flare who is always clean and tidy, I decided to see how she was handling the weather.  Dropping over to her cottage she invited me in.  "Whoooo!  This is like a blast furnace in here!" I shockingly shouted to Granny.  She had every oven in her small home on and was cooking up a storm.  "Why in this heat Granny Flare?" I asked and she just looked at me funny.  "I really hadn't noticed," she replied.  "I am busy preparing cookies for the local bake sale to raise money for a local charity."
I am not called Snoop for nothing as I realized this could be another story for the newspaper.  Granny then started to tell me about a frog family that has lost it's lily pad.  She was trying to help them move into a tree stump by the river by raising funds to make sure their new home would be safe and secure.  "Especially by flooding," she told me as I was leaving.  But I couldn't leave until I knew her secret in staying cool in this heat as she certainly looked tidy.  She too winked at me and said "My secret?  I spray it on first thing in the morning and it keeps me cool and comfortable."  Not wanting to get more details in her grooming technique, I left it at that for if I stayed another five minutes by her ovens I might be the next heat victim
Thinking of what Granny had told me about this poor frog family, I decided to check out the river.  Would anyone be down at the local swimming hole trying to keep cool?  When I got there, it was empty.  Not a person in site, but when I put my foot into the water I understood why.  Even that was hot!  Out of the corner of my eye I did see Meen, the Pyksee, bouncing from toadstool to toadstool in a nearby meadow but she disappeared before I could talk to her about how she was staying cool.
By this time I decided to head back to the village when I was surprised to see Hir'aeth, the Gooblin King, out of his cave.  He had apparently been visiting someone at the village from the direction he was coming.  At first I was going to ask him how he was keeping cool, especially since Gooblin's are sensitive to the sun then I discovered his secret myself.  He had his mechanical bird, Rave, flying over him with a bucket of water with small holes in the bottom.  He was getting a small gentle rain falling on him to stay cool just like a summer shower.
Picture
"We should all have something like that!" I realized.  "Instead of sitting in a tub of water, we could have cold water poured into a bucket with a bunch of holes in the bottom and have it drip down.   I'll call it a 'shower'.  This is brilliant!"
Snoop then rushed off to Ironmonger's Hammer and Spike shop to pick up his bucket list of supplies to build his own 'shower' to keep cool.

I Need A Scoop!!!

Augustus, the Earl of Grey also known as 'Snoop', sits at his desk with the small sign that says 'Editor in Chief' tacked to the front of it, shaking his head side-to-side and wringing his hands thinking to himself.
"I am loosing my touch! Some of the biggest stories in the past several years let alone decades and I wasn't there!  I didn't even know about them until afterwards," he grumbles.  "And that came from one of the minions who was there when I wasn't!"
The minion mentioned was Meen, the Pyksee, who worked for Hunter, the Shadows' King.  Hunter disappeared and was believed to be gone forever during the Dragon transformation and has left his daughter, Princess (oops - now Queen) Ffion ruling the Shadows' Kingdom.  "Another 'scoop' missed," moaned Snoop to himself.  Meen happened to be stopping by the Village on the Wall (where the Bellwether newspaper was located and Snoop's office), when Snoop casually asked 'What's news?' (a newspaperman's joke - think about it...) only to be told about all of the things he was unaware of...
Picture
"How could this have happened?" Snoop thought as Meen went on and on about the events of the past couple of weeks that were unknown to this roving editor/reporter.
Somewhere towards the end of the telling, Meen remembered what she was supposed to be doing and bounded off leaving Snoop just standing on the street corner in shock.  "I must get this confirmed!" thought Snoop as he ran into the Bellwether office and hollered "Stop the Presses!"
Picture
It did not take long for the news to start traveling throughout the Realms and most of it before the Bellwether could print it.  This was when Snoop truly started wondering if he had lost his ability to be on the edge of the news.  "I have never missed a big story like this before," he reasoned to himself.  "I was the one who let everyone know that a Dragon had returned.  I was the one who always knew when a traveler came back or was going through the Realms."
"It was me who first reported the possibility of a Borrower finding a Dragon Tablet.  I even was the first to report when the Elifant escaped!"
Thinking about his successes helped Snoop realize that once in a while things were missed, but he could not go on this way much longer.  It was then that he saw someone was sweeping out the Council Chamber across the street from his newspaper office.  "Something special must be going to happen," he realized.  "There isn't a council meeting scheduled again until next month."
Picture
As he started for the door to check it out more, Snoop's unbridled curiosity took over - little did he realize that this time his story may be more than he was looking for...

Snoop's Scoop - The Return of a Dragon

Snoop is sitting in his best chair and indulging himself with his favorite tea, Earl Grey, enjoying this special moment as he had just published the Scoop of the Century.  A Wish Dragon has returned to the Realms and he had witnessed it all!  Read all about it here in the current special edition of The Bellwether...
Picture
The Dowager is also pleased with the article about her but is also wondering if anyone noticed the dandelions.
Picture
Most of the others who where there at The Wishing Well wondered where Snoop had been hiding since they didn't remember seeing him.  Nemmer kept muttering that even though he wasn't there at the Well, he knew the Dusty Mytes must have something to do with it.  Of everyone in the Realms, the only two occupants that were not reading the paper were the Spites, Sprigg'n and The CAT,  instead they were swapping funny stories about Wizards and Dryads.
Even the Trolls were purchasing this edition.  Contrary to popular belief, most Trolls do read (they also clip coupons, but that's a different story...).  This story was holding the attention of one in particular and the more he read, the more he smiled.  "Now I can finally get that talisman," he muttered.

Special Edition of the Bellwether

Everyone is reading all about it!!!  Snoop got the scoop!  The truth behind the strange sightings in the Wandering Woods (or at least the foot prints and strange lights anyway) has been discovered.
Picture

Click here to read this Special Edition of the Bellwether
Several days ago Snoop volunteered to search out the Woods to discover the strange reports that had been coming in.  What he has discovered will change everything in the Realms and you are reading it here first!

As Hewy and Sprout eat a quick snack at the Sugar Plum Bakery, the latest headlines catch the Troll's eye.  Quickly scanning the article he grabs the young dryad and heads for the door.  "We have somewhere to be," is all he tells Sprout.

Efem, Cornelia, and Parsley were all drinking tea while they waited to hear the latest reports from the Mushroom Line and Twitter birds when the special edition of the Bellwether arrived.  Instantly they all jumped to their feet and started for the door.  In their haste, Parsley did not even remember to leave a message for her son, Sprout.  "I am sure he will find something to eat on his own," she thought after the three of them had hurried down the trail.

Nemmer, finally giving up on finding The CAT let alone a Wish Dragon, was walking home to have dinner with his wife, Cornelia, not realizing that at that moment she was closer to finding the Wish Dragon than he was.  As he stooped in the doorway to pick up the newspaper that had just been delivered, he decided to quickly scan the headlines to catch-up on local events.  He never had a chance to turn to the next page as he dropped the paper, turned around, and headed back down the trail.

As Fiddlefaddle delivered copies of the paper to both the Baron and Dowager with their tea, soon it would be known that their secret was out.  The Wish Dragon had been discovered!  “I hope Hungry will be alright,” thought Griselda, the Dowager, as she read the article.
Taking a break from his many duties at the stable, Scarlet was spending a minute reading the latest edition of the Bellwether.  “Did you see this Meen?” asked the farrier to the jumping Pyksee.  Before Meen could answer he continued, “Your Dragon friend has been discovered to be lose in the Woods and will be making an appearance at the Magical Wishing Well out back behind the King’s Castle today.  Let’s go see how he’s been doing but first you should tell the Shadows' King.”
Picture
… and yes readers, we too will have a representative of the Bellwether on hand at the meeting to keep you informed as to what transpires at the Magical Wishing Well.
