Since it seemed no one was taking care of the grounds around the Mansion, a seedling dandelion was easier to find than it should have been. "I might have to listen to Mom and actually hire more help around here," thought the Baron as he looked at the dandelions in his gardens. Quickly picking one he returned to the parlor. "I have it! Now off to the caves," he said as the Dowager rose from the chair and started to the door leading to the caves under the Mansion.
"Is it too hopeful that a Wish Dragon has returned?" she mused. Upon entering the cave, they see the young Dragon sitting on a rock watching them. “Hello little one. My son says your name is Hungry and that you are a ‘Secret’. But, you may be more than that. We shall determine that soon. I am the Dowager Griselda, the Baron’s mother and am very happy to meet you. May I ask you some questions?”
“Will it hurt?” asked the Dragon. “If it does, then I don’t want to do it.”

“Mom?! Mom... what are you doing here?” spurts the Baron. “I am here because you apparently need me here! Why was there no one to answer the door? You really should get some more help. I assume Fiddlefaddle is still with you, is he not? He at least should have answered the door? There he is now - better late than never I suppose. Fiddlefaddle, some tea please.”
Still a little surprised to see his mother, the Baron sat and just stared at her. Finally he found the words to ask again, “What are you doing here Mom? I mean, when did you get here and how was your journey?”
The Baron just stared at his mother and wondered if she was going crazy... or was he?
At this point, the Baron thinks it might be a good idea to discover just what is going on beneath his mansion. Of course that includes dragging along Fiddlefaddle, his faithful but sometimes grumpy manservant, whether he wants to or not.
Did you see the hidden message? --- Dragon below mansion in cave
“I heard that,” smiled the Baron, “and it’s not what you think. We are not leaving on another trip. We are actually going to stay right here for this adventure,” he told his batman. “You can even unpack the big pieces of luggage this time. I intend to stay here for quite a while.”
“I know that look sir. It means you are up to something. Do I want to know your plan?” Fiddlefaddle asked. "“Nope. Too early to tell - too early to tell… drag in the luggage and we will see. Ha, Ha, 'Drag-in' the luggage… that was a good one,” laughed the Baron at his own joke.
About this time, the Baron started to appear around a bend in the trail and was heading right for them. "Get down, now Hungry, don't let him see you," reminded Meen. Sitting there for someone to just wander by wasn't that exciting, thought Hungry. Besides, he was starting to get hungry. As the Baron was now closer to the log, Meen decided it was time to leap out. Meen jumps from the log and lands in front of the Baron, startled he jumps back and raises his cane in defense. "What are you? Or more like, who are you?" asks the Baron. "You wouldn't be trying to get me lost now would you?" "Are you asking for directions?" smiles Meen. Whispering to Hungry, "Let's hope so, that way we can send him around in circles. Otherwise this won't be as much fun".
But, then again, it was my own people that took the Magic for granted and nearly destroyed it here in the Village. I was here when the last Dragon left and the Dragon Stones started disappearing. That is what set my itchy feet in motion, to go out and seek the Magic and to see what I could do to save it. Now I have come home to relax in my own comfortable chair and to build. I think it is time to create a home for the forgotten magical creatures I have saved... my orphans.
As I work on the body of my next character, the Baron (Bats), I need to be thinking ahead as to what he will be wearing. All of my characters are very opinionated about their clothes and I do find this hard to be their dressmaker/tailor. After all, the clothes reflect their personalities and helps to set them in time. It also aids in the story they are telling.
The Baron has been living up to his nickname. Although he likes to think of himself as a little "batty", he has been an interesting inspiration. He has revealed to me how I can keep that spring in my step as I age gracefully... or not so gracefully, by remembering that there can be fun in the discovery. I invite you to come along and discover some of the fun and mystery that awaits the Baron. What brings him to his mansion in the Village and what adventures still await?
