Now, as everyone who has ever lived with a cat (you don't own a cat - you just live with it), that a cat has a mind of it's own. Add a touch of magic, the ability to talk, and a cat attitude - things become even more interesting. Especially with a cat that has a twisted sense of humor!
The CAT quickly sauntered (cats do not just walk anywhere) over to the Twitter birds' pond and summoned who could be calling him... It was that wizard Dewin's Spite looking into a mirror. "Why would she be searching for me?" The CAT pondered. "I haven't bothered a Spite before..." As he said this, he realized that this was something new and not boring!!! Instantly he knew where the Spite was and that it was very close. "Close enough for just a short magical spring" decided The CAT. So, as Sprigg'n was deciding whether to search for The CAT or go and tell Dewin what she had discovered (both about the Wish Dragon and her new names), The CAT suddenly appeared sitting on the trail in front of her. There was no 'POOF' of magic - just a smug looking cat smiling at the Spite like it was soon to be a meal. "I have heard of you," Spite smiled back, "and your mischief. What do you want from me?"

"Oops. Sorry - I forgot and I don't even know what a 'knock, knock' joke is," Sprigg'n replied. "Lucky you," said the mirror. "Will you please help me?" begged Sprigg'n. "Okay, If we have an understanding, I will. Look deeply into the mirror for what is to be and you soon you will see... arggghhh! Now you got me doing it!" growled the mirror.
"Can you repeat that portion of the prophecy again Hewy?" asked Sprout. "One more time only," answered the Troll. "Here it is... For in the telling of this tale a musician must play as the dryad who has forsaken it's way; the troll will mend what was once broken as they both must gain the Dragyn 's token. "What does it mean by a Dryad who has forsaken it's way? Could that be my mother since she has decided to work with the herbs instead of the trees?" Sprout asked. "I don't know. I am not even sure that the Troll is me," replied Hewy. "To find out though will require us to find the Wish Dragon first."
She hadn't gotten that far before her tummy started rumbling. "It must be noon," she realized as Spite knew her stomach like clockwork. Noon is also the magical time between time, when the morning is leaving and the afternoon beginning.
Amazed on hearing her laughter echoing in this small glen, she looked harder into the mirror. It glowed brighter and suddenly she felt she should ask it a question.
So Spite did and as she concentrated, the sound of the word "Sprigg'n" popped into her head. "What the muddle puddle is that suppose to mean to me? Is this just a game - how can this word be my name?" The Mirror let out a deep sigh and continued, "Sprigging is a process. It is where the handles, spouts and embellishments are added to earthenware. You know those fancy cups that Dewin likes to drink out of with the dragon handles? To add that to his cup is called sprigging. Just like sprigging, your laughter lightens a person's burden, makes them easier to carry and embellishes the goodness in the world. So now see yourself, Sprigg'n Mac-talla ('mac-talla' is echo in Gaelic), as laughter in the wind embellishes the world so will yours. This is the name you will carry with you now," intoned the Mirror as it's magical glow faded. Humbled, the Spite sat and silently repeated her new name. "Sprigg'n Mac-talla," she finally said laughing aloud. "The mirror not only gave me a first name, I now have two!"
"Well, this isn't getting me anywhere," she decided. That is when it hit her (not literally of course)... "The Magical Well! That's who might be able to help me," she realized.
As she neared the Magical Well, a blue glow emitted from the center. "Somebody appears to be home," the excited Spite hoped.
"Now what am I going to do with a pillow," wondered the Spite.
Spite was sitting in her favorite place by the babbling, chuckling brook. She knew this would lighten her mood as she had decided that it was time. The Wizard, Dewin, needed to know her name.
Spite knew she was unique and that she had been "born" from the sacrifice of a Wish Dragon trying to correct a great wrong. That love is partially reflected in the blue flame on her forehead but no one had been present when she was born. She had come in at a special time and was blessed with knowing what she was, but no one was there to name her. Over time the villagers and Dewin just fell into the habit of calling her Spite.
There is just so much to do in order to get ready for my big debut! First there is the brushing and styling of my hair. I know I should be paying attention but there is always something to distract me. Did you see my pretty wings? There has been a lot of designing that went into them so I could have the perfect ones for me. But then "mom" decided to change the color of them as she said that bluer tones would be better for my coloring. But we aren't done yet. There is still the dress to finish and the donning of my magical shoes before I can be presented. "Mom" is also trying to pull together the project so you can see more about the process, so keep tuned for that coming out next week too.
Another connection the Dragons have with their birth crystals is the low melodious tone that helps them sleep. Only the Dragon can hear it and each crystal has its own CPS (Crystal Position System) range. It calls to the Dragon to help them to be found. As a result, the Dragons were pulled away from the Realm as they had to search farther and farther away in order to regain their birth crystals. This is the reason that the Dragons finally all left the Realm. (Others have many conspiracy theories around why the Dragons all left, but now you know the real story...) What does this have to do with Spite... let alone Hungry? Hungry's parents recognized that all of the Dragons were departing the Realms in search for their stolen property. They were also worried what it meant for this much magic to leave and never return to the Realm. They decided to seek out the Sleeping Sisters to discover if the Sisters could see into the future to help them. The Dragons were told of a prophecy about a Wish Dragon saving the land for good or for evil. The Sisters told them that if a Wish Dragon was not to be found, then it was a possibility that a evil would rule the land. At this gathering of the Sisters and Dragons were Hungry's parents. One of them was the Wish Dragon that hatched when Spite was "born". Then Hungry's parents left in search of their missing crystals. They had to leave their remaining egg behind but hoped it would be well cared for. They had hoped to return before it hatched but in spite of all their good plans, Spite felt that she had been abandoned. Oh the plans of wizards, Dragons and mystics... as they don't always go the way expected.
Now we know about the birth of Spite, but why is she with the Wizard Dewin? What does she hope to find there and what does she know about Hungry, the Wish Dragon? To know of the Blue Flames of Magic requires knowledge of Dragons, hatchlings... and specifically, Wish Dragons. A Dragon creates a special nest of collected stones for their one and only egg which can sit for eons before hatching.
The wish is just as important as the sacrifice as it defines the personality of the Wish Dragon that will be. When the Dragon hatches that is also the same time a Spite is born. A Spite and a Wish Dragon are almost like soul twins as they are forever magically connected.
For in every wish, there is a moment of doubt. This is where the old saying, "it was perfect in spite of..." comes from. Which is also why Spite carries the Blue Flame upon her forehead. It is a symbol of where she came from and as a reminder to think before acting. Now where is the Wish Dragon she is bonded to? That is part of her story as these events happened long before Hungry was even born.
