The Hidden Delights...

​"Apples, apples, apples," Allspice kept muttering to himself.  Not that he needed them for the Ambrosia but he did required them for his favorite food in the world.

​Whenever Allspice brewed up a batch of Ambrosia, the smell of the Ambrosia brewing would triggered his craving for this delicious treat.

The sad part of this craving is that he hadn't had his favorite food for quite a while.

Where he hailed from no longer carried his quick and easy way of making it and to make it from scratch took FOREVER!  Which in a magical land can be quite a very long time indeed.  Plus with the ever demanding need for Ambrosia, he was more often too busy making that - leaving no time for other delicious treats to devour.

It was in his exploring this new Realm  while trying to find the perfect location for his brewery, that Allspice did happen to come across a bakery.  

Entering into the Sugar Plum Bakery though only revealed some wonderful cookies, muffins, and breads.  Not the tasty confection he was looking for.

"Alas!"  Allspice thought to himself.  "I'll be on a good diet since I can't find the time to make my favorite treat."  After a moment more of thought, he chuckled ruefully to himself.  "I never did admit that they were healthy for my diet.  But, oh, one bite of those tasty morsels is certainly good for the soul."

As Allspice was trekking back to his cave he wandered through this small village.  In one of the store windows was an interesting display. "Everything you need to make quick and easy Apple Turnovers," read the sign in the window.

"This isn't what I have used in the past,"  thought Allspice.  "But it certainly looks like it might be a second best option if it would give me my delicious treat.  I'll be happier than an Unicorn eating cotton candy if it does!"

Allspice rushed into the store, bought the ingredients, and then faster than a Twitterbird can deliver a message,  Allspice was back in his cave firing up the oven.

He followed the instruction on the Puff Pastry sheets.  Though he cut the large sheet into smaller squares so he could make his turnover covering.  He then opened the can of Apple pie filling and decided the slices were too big for his smaller version of his treat.  

​Chopping up the apples with a knife inside the can, he then proceeded to place a very small amount in the center of each pastry square.  

​With an extra dash of cinnamon and a touch of allspice (to give it a little boost to the tastebuds), Allspice then folded the pastry over itself sealing in all that wonderful apple filling delight.

​"Oh no!"  Allspice said to himself.  "I almost forgot the finishing touch to my favorite treat.  But its a good thing I have on hand some powdered sugar and margarine.  

A couple scoops of the sugar with just a dab of the margarine, add a dash of vanilla extract, and stir," Allspice said the recipe over to himself.  "I'll add a small splash of milk to thin this mixture into a glaze.  Then dribble it over the golden pastries after they have cooled when I pull them out of the oven."

After the pastries cooked in the oven (at 400 degrees for about 15 minutes),  Allspice in his excitement almost dropped the pan when he removed them.  But he quickly recovered himself, dribbled the glaze over the turnovers and then proceeded to sit down and eat his first bite.  "Oh yes! Yummmm," Allspice thought to himself.  Then he chuckled.  "I can now have my treat in this new land!  What a nice boon for moving, but I will certainly have to limit myself or I will be gaining way too much to my waistline.  So just like the Dragons in trying to limit themselves on our Ambrosia, I now have my 'own' ambrosia."
