Which way will it sway and who will triumph none yet can foretell but for good to win the evil must not prevail; for if evil wins forever magic will be changed or lost and the Realms will suffer at the cost. For in the telling of this tale a musician must play as the dryad who has forsaken it's way; the troll will mend what was once broken as they both must gain the Dragyn 's token. When Hewy was finished and the others silently trying to figure out the song, he spoke. "Hungry, I am glad to meet you. What you just heard was a prophecy from long ago told to me by Awena of the Sleeping Sisters. We think it is about you and the choices you must make for the Realms."
"What are you doing interrupting me like that?" growled the angry wizard glaring at the Spite. Sprigg'n wasn't backing down and said, "You will not hinder the Dragon's decision. This day has been foretold since the day you came to the Realms and why I was born. You will have your chance to convince Hungry of your desires, but not with the magic you seek to change." Surprised to hear such determination from the Spite, the spell vanished from his mind. "Since the Spite has gotten her own name, she should have added "pain" to the middle of it," thought the Wizard. He continued to mutter, "Now I am going to have to convince the Dragon to grant my wish by using my other plan." Turning back to the others, Dewin realized that Hewy was just finishing repeating the prophecy and was starting to answer Hungry's questions. No one had noticed. "So you think that I am the Wish Dragon in the story, err... I mean prophecy? But how can that be if this was written long before I was born?" asked the confused Dragon. "If I am, what am I supposed to do and who are the others mentioned? Don't they have to be here also?"
Efem, noticing his snacking, smiled as she continued, "and the hungry part, besides being also your name, may also apply to you as I watch you eating every morsel left in your take-away bag from the Sugar Plum Bakery." "If I hadn't seen it with my own eyes, I would never have believed a Dragon could blush," thought Hewy as he watched Hungry quickly put the last remaining cookie back into the bag he had been carrying.

Now I am caught up in this silly drama waiting for my part to play as well. Oh, I have choices, don't get me wrong. It is not like I 'have' to do something. By one of my little acts, things could change the outcome. But would it just delay the same results or create another whole new problem? I decided a long time ago, to just go with the flow (that's a well joke if you missed it). So, I might as well see who has already arrived and who is coming since I can feel their energy as they approach.
Efem was my favorite Tree Mother as I did enjoy her inner light. I see that Cornelia and Parsley still like to spar with each other, that certainly hasn't changed it seems. But who is that young energy around the Troll? I haven't met him before though I can feel a connection through him to the Tree Mothers. Hmm... that is interesting. Now the Troll certainly is a different vibration. Usually they are so slow and stagnate (think water... come'on these are funny), but this Troll has a different beat around him. I do believe he is going to have an important part in the prophecy if now is the time for it to happen.
Ahhh... now we all come together... for here is the wizard and the Spite who I gave my mirror too approaching like a tidal wave hitting the beach (okay... if you missed that one you really don't have a sense of humor and maybe aren't well --[wishing well that is - sorry just had to throw in one more]). As Dewin, the Wizard, and Sprigg'n approach The Wishing Well, they are surprised to see so many others there. "Where did they all come from?" the wizard whispered to the Spite. "I thought we were only going to meet the Dragon." Before Sprigg'n could answer, Hungry noticed them walking down the trail and the first thing his eyes latched onto was what Sprigg'n was carrying. "You have MY PILLOW!" roared the Dragon.
Dewin mumbled as he remembered about that day long ago when he first met the Spite. As impossible as it may seem, at the same time Sprigg'n was also thinking about that fateful day. After that infamous wish was granted and the village was transported, Dewin saw the Spite following him as he left the village... "Go away and quit following me," Dewin growled at the Spite. The Spite just ignored him. Finally Dewin turned around and faced the Spite. "Who are you and why are you following me?" he demanded of the Spite. After just staring at Dewin for a minute, the Spite finally answered. "I am here because of you. You are part of the wish and the Flames of Magic have welded us together." "What does that mean... Flames of Magic?" Dewin asked. "When a Dragon egg is hatched, the stones that make up the nest are magically changed into crystals by magic. Each new crystal absorbs the loose magic released from the hatching. That is why both the Fae and Outies search for the crystals." "What does that have to do with you following me?" asked Dewin. Inspite of himself, Dewin was interested in what the answer might be. "Well?" "You must be really thick headed," answered the Spite, "and I thought you were a wizard. Because you were practicing magic at the time of the wish by a Wish Dragon the Flames of Magic has joined us all together. Where you go, I now go until the wish is changed or broken." "A wish can be broken?" Dewin uttered in surprise. "How can that happen?" Spite only looked at Dewin as she shook her head from side to side, "Wizards," was all she would mutter. As long ago when the conversation took place, Dewin could still remember the look of disgust on the Spite's face... Suddenly the Spite appeared on the trail in front of Dewin. "I have found him," she told the Wizard.
Passporte', who didn't look at time quite the same way as the wizard, agreed to stay. He wasn't ready to continue down the trail even if it was getting dark until he could finish writing up the thoughts still swirling around in his head. That is exactly what Dewin wanted to hear. "What are you still writing about," he asked Passporte'. "Is it still about the Dragon?"
After he scribbled some more in his journal Passporte' continued, "This is when Hewy said something about a prophecy and the Dragon." Now this did intrigue the wizard for he knew how powerful prophecies could be, specially when revealed by a mystic such as a Sleeping Sister. "Please continue. This is fascinating," prompted Dewin to his guest. So as the wizard listened to Passporte' transfixed by his words, little did they know that a little Dragon down the trail in the woods was also going through his own transformation. After all he was a young Dragon growing by leaps and bounds as he continued trudging through the Woods in search of a teacher and his pillow.
As Dewin continued to observe the scribbler, Passporte' mumbled something which caught his attention. "What was that?", he asked. Passporte' looked up and repeated, "When I find the Dragon, I must remember to ask about the prophecy when I find out if they are vegetarians." Now that was something Dewin had never heard before. "What prophecy might that be Passporte'?" But Passporte' was busy finishing in his journal Dewin knew that he must practice the extreme magic of "patience" as he waited a little longer before he would get an answer. Without looking up from his journal, Passporte' continued... "Oh, it is something Hewy, the Troll, told me the other day. Something about aWish Dragon being lost who could grant wishes. He did not tell me all of it as he was in a hurry leaving the Sleeping Sisters when I ran into him. But I am sure he would tell you if you find him and asked him." Passporte then continued to scratch his quill in his journal. "Would he indeed," thought Dewin. Hmmmm....
Startled out of their distractions, it was Dewin who spoke first. "What brings you out today Passporte'? You found something new to add to your journal?" "Oh, hi Dewin. Yes, I have recently heard rumors about a Dragon being seen in the woods and decided I would go out and see if I could find it. What brings you out?" asked Passporte'. Not wanting to tell the adventurer that he too was looking for the Dragon (for reasons he knew Passporte' would not approve of...), Dewin told him the first thing that came to his mind. "I was remembering about the old holiday I used to wait for each year called Samhain (also now know as All Hallows Eve or Halloween). You probably have never heard of it." "Actually I have," answered Passporte'. His answer surprised Dewin so much, it took a minute before he realized that Passporte' was rummaging through his satchel, looking for a small scroll. "Here it is!" he exclaimed. "I once heard a story from Scarlet, the Nytemare's farrier, about this special time and how magick ran amok that night... Would you like to read it?" Passporte' asked Dewin. Would you also like to read the tail (oops - did it again - I meant the tale) of the Nytemares and Halloween?
Usually the Spite would point out to him why an idea of his would not work. “I would think she was just trying to get me out of the cave, but since she goes out when she wants, there must be something else going on,” thought Dewin. “If I could only believe that the Wish Dragons are back!” And so, Dewin decided that today was the day to leave the cave and begin the search. He had taken care of the one problem needing his attention earlier that morning and now he was free to start. As he was packing he realized he still didn't know exactly where to begin.
Reaching into a pocket, he withdrew a round glass ball. The crystal ball was one of the few things (besides his journal book) that he been able to hang on to when he was transported to the Realms by the wish of a Dragon. It was temperamental and did not always work, and sometimes when it did he would get strange pictures of a family lost somewhere in outer space that never seemed to find their way back home, but when it did work – it was a most useful tool. Whispering the incantation that would awaken the crystal, he held it out in his hands and started pointing it in four different directions. First south, then north, next west, and finally east.
It had been when the Dragon had transported him from his world to this unknown realm. Before that day, Dewin had never seen a Dragon though he had heard about them from the stories told by Myrddin.
It took several days before Dewin found out what had happened. A Wish Dragon apparently had landed on the mountain top overlooking the village. This caused the mountain to crumble sending chaos and rubble towards the sleepy village below. The Dragon didn't think but just 'wished' the entire village some place safe and out of harm's way. All it took was for the Dragon to "wish" for no place like home... and here they were in the realm of where Dragon's lived. So it has now been many years that Dewin has lived with the Fae of the realms trying to return home. It was when he finally discovered the story of the Dragon Clan and how they failed their duty to the Wish Dragons, causing all Dragons to disappear, that explained what it was that kept him from returning home. He needed a Wish Dragon to reverse the wish that had brought him to the Realm of Wymsy and now all the dragons were gone!
I think Dewin, my wizard, still has a lesson or two to still learn. But do you know how hard it is to find the perfect outfit for a wizard? It isn't easy (*smiling). So, I then went searching for my second favorite wizard, Gandalf of the Lord of the Rings for further inspiration. Now as cool as these two wizards look and there is wonderful detail in the White Wizard's robe, this wasn't the texture I was looking for in Dewin's robes. He is still a "doll" (don't say that too aloud around him) and still needs more bling or magical energy than a human dressed as a wizard. In looking for something I wanted I was at least deciding on what I didn't want.
Plus he needed his crystal ball. After all, he will need it to fulfill his destiny with the Wish Dragon. How he will do that will depend on what he finds when he sets out looking for that little Dragon that everyone keeps asking about. And so, without any further ado... Let me introduce you to
Dewin, the Wizard. Why a wizard? The question was asked (mainly by my husband), "Why a wizard? Why not an alchemist, or a sorcerer, or a druid?” They do have cool toys to play with after all. To start with, I had to educate him with what the difference between each one was (other than that is what Dewin told me he was) and why I would choose a wizard.
What is a sorcerer then? This one was a little harder to research as most definitions involve the use of magic (nothing wrong with that). I mean, telling me it is someone who practices sorcery does not help much. Again, that would be the same as saying a wizard practices magic. It was when I started reading up on sorcery that I realized that this still was not Dewin’s style. His powers were not gained from the assistance or control of other spirits. He was more than that.
So, that brought me back to ‘why a wizard?’ Wizards are said to have great skill and are clever in their doings and are able to influence powerful magics through their innate abilities and learning. Their thirst for knowledge and hunger to learn unknown magic focuses them on a single path. It may take a wizard years to achieve this knowledge, but the years will not be noticed as long as it takes them to their desired goal. My hubby has now been enlighted (which is partially why he never complains about the body parts or magical elements laying around the house that all go into the creations of each of my characters as he enjoys this as much as I do).
