Now with the sisters back home, Goodie2shues was running off to check the snail mail for her latest shoe order while Goodie4u buried her nose into a book in the hopes of finding some answers. This allowed Goodiegood to have some time alone to clear her head.
As Goodiegood entered the garden, she took a deep breathe and let it out slowly. As she started to relax she began to think of all of the interesting foods she had shared at Parsley's. "While that Horn Melon drink was interesting, I will admit I had never had Dragon Fruit pie before," she thought. "But that Mingle Berry Mince pie was too delicious for words... I must get that recipe." Slowly Goodiegood's reminiscing to herself helped her find her sweet inner place. Though soon thoughts of what was happening in the Realms creeped back into her head. The look that Arnie had given her as they shooed her away would not disappear. "Maybe I should have told Arnie more of the vision?" she fretted to herself. "That's the hard part of being a seer - knowing what to or not to say..."
"I do wonder why we are so busy cooking up all this food to take with us to this herbalist called Parsley," Goodie2shues muttered to herself. Goodiegood knew Parsley and had told her sisters that they needed to go visit with her as she had information they needed in order to divert the vision they had received. At this point, Goodiegood entered the kitchen and Goodie2shues asked her that same question as to why all the food. "Parsley told me that we are arriving at a special time. The harvest is in and they like to celebrate with thanksgiving for a good year with good fellowship. She will also be inviting some other powerful people to this meeting, so one doesn't want to show up empty handed," replied Goodiegood.
With this they put the crystal cooking bowl away and continued to finish their cooking and packing. Goodie4u popped in to the kitchen reminding her sisters that if they knew what was good for them, they better get a move on. The other two sisters nodded their heads thinking each to themselves how thankful they were to have each other and to find others to share this burden with as well. "We have everything ready, lets be going," said Goodiegood as she picked up one of the three baskets they had put together and started for the door.
"I need to pull myself together and get my head out of the mixing bowl," Goodiegood firmly told herself. The sisters often talked in "cooking terms" for after all, they were the best Bakers in the Realm and even had a magical Baking Spoon that helped them "see" things that others couldn't. Goodiegood thought again about the message that she had received. "Great danger to all," she whispered as she saw a vision of war between all the races in the Realm of Wymsy. "The lust for power will destroy the peace of the realms if what I have seen is not averted." The thought of it made her shiver but then another feeling entered her mind.
Goodiegood would have sent the message direct to Parsley by using the Mushroom Line, but the mushrooms seemed to not grow around the Goodie cottage since the sisters liked to occasionally put mushrooms in their soups.
Goodie2shues knew most people would not leave a Borrower alone for even a second, but she decided she wasn't going to worry. The house (and especially the kitchen) had a way of protecting what was in it. The Dinner Bell was located by the backdoor of the kitchen hanging off the rafter of the cottage. Only the Goodie Sisters could hear this ring and if they did, they knew they needed to come home NOW! Goodie2shues noticed that the Borrower was still standing by the table, looking confused, she pointed at the chair and then slightly pushed down on Arnie's shoulders while saying, "Please, Arnie, sit here at the table while I ring up my sisters." She then turned and walked out the back door to ring the Dinner Bell.
The mention of the tablet brought Arnie back to what why she was there in the first place and started her to thinking for a moment before she answered. "The Wysp knows some because the pesky thing won't leave me alone. Though she did help me to find you as I really do need some help in trying to understand what this is all about. The rat and the cute troll guy just happened to sneak up on me when I went home and that says a lot of how distracted I have been ever since I discovered this treasure."
As the tablet was set on the table, Goodie2shues could see the magic glowing around it and certainly felt the age of time connected to it. Just as she was drawing closer to take a better look at it, the kitchen door slammed shut. "What is going on Goodie2shues?" asked her oldest sister Goodiegood. "Why were you ringing the Dinner Bell? What's the trouble?" asked her other older sister Goodie4u. Not taking her eyes off of the Dragon tablet, Goodie2shues replied, "Look at what this Borrower dragged in." As the three sisters stood around the table, the tablet slowly began to spin and slightly raise off the table. Before the tablet could lift any higher from the table, the Goodie Sister's Baking Spoon flew across the room and landed on top of the tablet to lower it back down to the table. Seldom did the Baking Spoon open up to all the Sisters at once, but at this moment each of them had their hair flying and their eyes rolling back in their heads as a vision appeared to each. "Great danger to all," whispered Goodiegood as she saw a vision of war between all the races in the Realm of Wymsy. "The lust for power will destroy the peace of the realms if what I have seen is not averted." "The secrets of the tablet will reveal a great transformation. When that happens, the magical energy generated will create a powerful being that has never been seen in the Realm," said Goodie4u in an eerie voice that did not sound at all like her normal one... it gave all of them a slight chill. It was then that the vision left each of the sisters and they now stood there looking at each other with concern in their eyes as they all then stared at Arnie. It wasn't until the last sister, Goodie2shues, finally told her part of the vision that made Arnie wish even more that she had never found the Dragon tablet.
He too wanted to hear what the Goodies had to say and maybe learn something else about the Dragon tablet for the Troll King. The problem was that when Arnie crossed the threshold of the door, what looked like a circular bundle of sticks over the doorway turned into a tangle of snakes! Since rats and snakes don't get along very well together (unless one knows he is invited to be the dinner which doesn't usually turn out well for the rat), Drat jumped back from the doorway just in time to hear Goodie2shues tell Arnie to close the door. "Ugh! I hate snakes," shuddered Drat as he heard the lock on the door click shut. Knowing he was now locked out of the cottage did not slow Drat down though. Quickly he started walking around the cottage trying to peek into the windows to see if he could at least see what was going on. But as he approached every window either they closed their shutters or the curtain hanging over it blew together tightly. "Oh Drat!" muttered the rat.
Watching the two laughing so hard finally got the rat to start smiling and even he started to snicker. "All right, fun time is over. Now what was so funny?" again asked Drat. "You are!" answered the Wysp. When you said 'Drat' we thought you were talking to yourself until we realized you were frustrated... When Drat finally figured out what the Wysp was telling him, he just shook his head from side-to-side and groaned, "I have got to get different traveling companions." With the three waiting on the doorsteps discussing what they were going to do now (especially with two of them hoping to get another chance at the obtaining the Dragon tablet), and Arnie inside the cottage, the Dowager over at the Shadows King's castle was planning her next steps also.
"Since an ancient Nyte Shade had given their magic to the dragons it made sense that the flutterby could feel the Dragon magic in the princess," Griselda realized. Soon she was in one of the guest rooms and was preparing for her next conversation with Ffion. "I must see how much the princess knows about her heritage and if she is aware of the connection with the Dragons," thought Griselda. "But first, I must get a message to Awena." Realizing that using a flutterby to send a secret message might not be the best option at the moment (especially if they were attracted to Ffion), the Dowager decided to use the next best thing. Quickly she took out a small package that she had been carrying with her and began her message. Opening a window in her room, she soon spotted a small Bee-G buzzing around a strange looking flower (it was in fact B-Glad who had been sent by Cornelia for some pollen from one of the plants that only grew in the Shadows King's garden). She waved the package in the air so the Bee-G could see it.
A little bewildered, Arnie looked around and tried to decide where was the safest place to sit. There was so much going on in the room! Something was brewing in the fireplace (and it smelled really good) and piles of books were stacked up several high (and appeared that the slightest touch would send them tumbling to the floor), but Arnie finally found a chair she considered safe enough to sit on a little further in the room. As Arnie sat, Goodie2shues shouted out from behind the curtain, "I would have been ready if the Spoon had let me know when you were expected, but that is Goodie4U's job. She does like keeping her secrets about when something should happen because she just loves drop-in guests that surprise us. But then Arnie, you wouldn't know about secrets would you?" Arnie was still trying to figure out how this somebody even knew her name and guiltily about her secret tablet. "I shouldn't spend so much time in the sauna (kiln) but it feels so good and brings a little color to me" Goodie2shues continued to shout out to Arnie. "Perfection should not be rushed and if I don't find my slippers, it is just hard for me to get dressed. Some fae think it is the dress that makes them. Nooooo! It's the shoes. The perfect pair of shoes makes the outfit and its where I begin when dressing. Why put on a silly brown dress if that doesn't make my slippers look dazzling?" Arnie just shook her head from side to side as she couldn't understand this fascination with shoes. "If she was talking about a key collection, now that would be something to get excited about," Arnie thought to herself as she touched the keys she had hanging around her waist. "The Spoon did show me what you want most though Arnie," Goodie2shues continued talking through the curtain. "Are you sure you are ready for what the tablet reveals?" Arnie was shocked! Goodie2shues even knew about the tablet and she hadn't even shown it to her yet. "Pinch me!** What is going on here?" Arnie nervously wondered as she jumped up from her chair.
*(Goodie2shues is a WIP - Work in Progress)
** Pinch me is a term all Borrowers are used to saying - especially since it has a double meaning for them...
While her thoughts were on what was brewing in the pot, a voice popped up as if the speaker was reading her mind. "That's Pumpkin Spice. Isn't it ambrosial? We are constantly brewing a pot for our guests as it is very popular. It seems to be in almost everything now... even the Outie's world has picked up on it," continued the strange voice.
Silently stepping a little closer to where the voice seemed to be coming from (as only a Borrower can do), Arnie could now hear what Goodie2shue was muttering about, "Where are my ruby red bunny slippers?" It's impossible to find them at times," growled Goodie2shue. "You would think being red would make them easier to find, but they keep running off with those dust bunnies! I guess I could wear something else, but those are my 'favorite' pair of slippers. What should I do???"
What do you think of ruby red bunny slippers for Goodie2shue... should they be a part of her costume? Why not drop me a yes or no in the comments below. I am sure she and I would love to hear from you.
As Arnie continued her walked to the Goodies cottage with the (mischievous) Wysp, (studious) Dulbbe, and (questionable) Drat, all the while the Wysp talking about some of the tricks it had pulled on others, Arnie wondered if this was what it was felt like to hang out with friends. As this was just too deep of a thought for her to ponder on for long, thankfully her thoughts were soon interrupted when they passed a stand of trees and saw the cottage they had been seeking.
The owner of this tablet had been gone for so long and since the tablet had been left alone in a cave, untouched for eons, it was a find she could tell herself was all hers. What bothered her the most was that this feeling of 'owning' something was a new feeling for her as Borrowers are quick to trade whatever they have "borrowed". As she again approached the cottage door, it slowly opened and she heard a voice calling "Come in, my Dear." Hesitating again at the threshold, she finally told herself "Quit being a scaredy-mouse and see what's inside" - so she entered the cottage and quickly forgot about losing her tablet as she started wondering what she might find hidden here (as every true borrower does).
"Well, don't just stand there with the door open. Close it behind you Arnie," the voice said. Quickly scanning the room, with her eyes darting from each wonderous and intriguing delight, Arnie was fast making her lists of "What was worth borrowing, where were all of the exits, and if there was anyone there (it would not do to have a witness) were always the rules of a Borrower's first priorities. This time, the last priority of the Borrower's short list was Arnie's first thought. "Who was there in the cottage with her?" |
